Abstract

The essay "Spirituality Is True Freedom — the Journey Towards Pure Love and Innocence" posits that despite external freedoms such as political independence or rights movements, individuals often remain bound by internal suffering. Spirituality is presented as the key to identifying and transcending the mind's control, leading to a life of authenticity and peace. The author reflects on personal growth and the importance of surrendering to life's teachings, advocating for a return to childlike wonder and an embrace of the present moment as the essence of spiritual practice.

Spirituality Is True Freedom — the Journey Towards Pure Love and Innocence

The spiritual journey begins from suffering and ends in freedom.

Once India wanted to be free from the clutches of Britishers. India gained independence after many protests, deaths, and conflicts. But even after 75 years of that independence, are people free?

The conflict of equality in gender, race, color is on the rise. Many countries have established women’s rights, gay rights, black rights. Are the men, women, LGBTQ community free?

Look at the billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett. They have an insane amount of money. But are they free?

What is Freedom?

We all are aware of the freedom to do what one wants. But absolute freedom is freedom from one’s suffering.

Look at a baby. The cheer, the smile, the bliss that they radiate is pristine. It is not dependent on money, house, cars, position, relations. Their innocence is authentic freedom.

When you are not present, you are in the past or fantasizing about the future. That is where chaos is. Excessive thoughts and mind manipulation lead to suffering, dis-balancing the inherent peace.

Are you different from Buddha?

Buddha is a title given to the free one. Free from the sufferings.

The outside of all enlightened people is the same. They possess the same body like ours. Despite that, they look so different. Their state of bliss seems unthinkable for us.

The difference lies in the transcendence of the monkey minds. They realized the source of every misery is the mind.

The mind can be helpful. But most times, it is jumping back and forth for no reason, creating misery.

Humans Have the Superpower to Manifest Suffering out of Thin air.

While having a delicious dinner with family members, you can be anxious about your work. While walking towards the office, your children in your mind trouble you. While having a shower, it bothers you about your phone call or meetings that didn’t go well.

The hijacking of thoughts is not new. It happens with everybody. And just because it happens with everybody, you make it normal.

But is it normal?

You have not accustomed the mind to do one thing at a time. It is alien to the mind. At the backend, the mind should have doubts to keep itself alive.

Mind is also called ego.

Ego comprises your thinking process, the beliefs, the identity that you decorate now and then. It can never happen without mind.

Spirituality helps in identifying this real culprit — The mind.

Spirituality = Freedom

Today I was watching outside my window. The trees, the road, the vast sky amazed me. It was not like I have not seen it before. But like a baby, I was in awe. There was no tension of any pending work, articles to write, or to cook a meal. Everything could wait. It was just me with nature at that moment.

Spirituality functions in a circle. It is all about going back to childlike innocence. An innocence that knows the cunningness but is pure in action.

Spirituality helps in letting the story created by the mind go. The narratives created by the thoughts make you its prisoner.

Many times, society feeds you stories to behave in a certain way that many accept. That unconsciously shackles you in the pre-defined chain.

The truth of living is not the same for everyone in the same locality or within a single family. Everybody lives in their mind. The world is not the same for everyone. Your perception dictates your world.

By dropping your mind reflected images of the world, you can embrace the reality — The life.

Spirituality Is the Journey of Uncovering Your Layers Of ego.

Everyone is on their life’s journeys. Learning and unlearning is the way life teaches you.

The life situations that you feel stuck in are your best teachers. Let us do a “Rewind Experiment” to understand it more.

  • Imagine yourself 10 years back. Look at your then conditions, attitudes, and relations. See the setbacks that you faced at those times. At those times, you thought it was impossible to go past those issues, but you strengthened. You matured in those challenging situations.
  • Recognize the journey and goals that you have accomplished in these past 10 years.
  • Now, look at your life in the present. You want to accomplish many goals, many things, and relations you wish to have or improve.

You may have exceeded in achieving what you wish for 10 years back. But now you have new dreams and goals. This is the ‘Journey of life.’

Life teaches you every second. Setbacks are the opportunities to grasp the real meaning of life.

There Comes a Time in Everybody’s Life When We All Seek an Answer to a Common Question — Why Me?

It is because you are losing your fake layer of ego. The stripping of that false is necessary for you to be close to life.

I remember when I hit rock bottom with no friends to rely upon. That was the time for the discovery of true me.

The path started with where I was. The journey was towards the inside — from fake friends to the authentic self.

The more authentic I became to myself, the more life gifted me with genuine friends.

Then I understood when they say — Life reflects what you are.

As I went deeper and deeper, I realized life guides you to see reality every minute. Recognize and go beyond the veil of your mind-created stories.

The false can not keep up with the consistency of reality. The veil has to drop. All life incidents are gradually taking you towards reality.

Life Is a Deep Well. The More You Awaken, the Deeper Layers Lit up, Which Were Once in The dark.

During my spiritual awakening, I realized that life is a deep well. For years, we have suppressed many layers of emotions and feelings. When one layer gets dissolved, the deeper one shows up.

So, don’t panic if that happens. After all, everything is within us. It has to be dissolved from within you.

With acceptance, it becomes easy to navigate through it.

The universe always has your back. You are never alone. Look closely. Cosmos continually guides you to your best support during these times.

Universe blessed me with a true master and mentor who has seen people getting stuck in this dark phase for decades. They compassionately helped me to go through this painful phase with ease.

The questioning is helpful, but the constant ‘why’ in question lengthen this period.

‘Why only I am affected? Why does nobody understand what I am going through? Why am I lonely? Why is there pain in my heart? Why pain doesn’t go away even after my intense efforts?’

Just let it be the way it is.

Everything is in is a perfect place already. It is you who has to open your heart to see. Even the pain in the heart is also there for a reason. Just let it be.

Spirituality allows you to flow in your natural state. When you are close to your natural state, it dissolves with no struggle.

The efforts jeopardize the speed. The shortest route is through surrender.

The Irony for the Highest Seeker in Spirituality.

Complete surrender is not a lazy action but comes after high penance.

You can not surrender till you have put in your 100% effort. Your mind will not let you surrender. Forced surrender can never happen.

Complete surrender comes after your determined endeavor.

Your efforts and practices can make you reach a point. But it does not result in the highest. When you realize this deeply, surrender flows easily and naturally.

After the surrender, grace happens. Life gifts you what always has been yours — the divine you. The old patterns wither out simply—a new flower blooms.

Summary

It doesn’t matter if you consider yourself spiritual. What matters is how willing you are to surrender your being to the intelligent life.

You are your master, life as your teacher, your current circumstances as your tests. Let life paves the way through you to bloom the unconditional love and innocence.

You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul. — Swami Vivekananda
