Spending an hour a day outside changed my life — and could change yours. For 365 consecutive days, I took on the challenge of spending at least 60 minutes outdoors.

Outwardly, I was healthier and happier. Inwardly, I was less stressed and more connected — both to nature and to people.

What changed is I was no longer outdoors simply for a workout. I stopped using that time to think about my workday or to-do list.

What happened is my time in nature opened a doorway through which I could step toward a more focused, creative, and connected version of myself.

I’m now enjoying the outdoors more than ever. Once the decision to go outside is made — regardless of weather — it is almost always better than you think.

The tug of the indoors only lasts until we step out the door. Ray Wirth photo.
