Speed Reading with the Right Brain — David Butler
Learn to Read Ideas Instead of Just Words

Quick Summary
Boost focus and concentration by engaging the power of your right brain visualizing skills. Reading happens in your brain, not your eyes. That’s why reading speed only increases when you comprehend faster. This book will show you how, by focusing your attention on ideas instead of words.
My Thoughts
If you’re tired of the usual books on speed reading, read this one. It proposes an original method, which seems to work all the same, for speeding up your reading.
The author recommends “reading with the right brain”, i.e. visualizing images while you read. The idea is interesting and seems to work.
However, it is repeated over and over and over again… throughout the book. This is the problem with many books in this genre, they could fit on 50 pages but the author always feels obligated to fill in unnecessarily.
On top of that, the author refutes all other possible reading techniques. As if his was the only right one. He imposes his vision. I think it’s better to let everyone try out different techniques so that we can find the one that suits us best. Especially as there is no scientific background to support the author’s claims. Or at least it’s not mentioned in the book.
Anyway, this book is interesting, and I’d never heard of “right-brain reading” before, so I learned something. But reading the whole book is a waste of time, it would have been better to make a more concise book.
To Read or Not to Read?
The author’s idea is interesting. And for that, the book is worth reading. On the other hand, you may want to close it once you’ve understood the main idea, because it’s repeated over and over again right to the end.
