South Korean retailers are offering more jumbo food products and here’s why

Convenience stores and other retailers in South Korea are trying to attract more customers with big food products due to this reason:
Inflation and high-interest rates are making things tough financially.
These jumbo products are helping people save money on their daily spending.
But it’s not just helping consumers though…
The big products are also great for food companies, driving up profits.
One of the big convenience store chains said many stores are offering large packaged foods for two reasons.
First, it lets customers save money amid higher prices.
Second, it helps the stores sell more and make more money too.
This big-size trend will likely keep going as there are plans to use popular items to meet more consumer needs, noted a BGF Retail company rep.
On Sunday, CU launched giant hot dogs over double the size of normal ones.

Each sausage is now 130 grams compared to the usual 80 grams.
They also recently came out with giant seaweed-wrapped “triangular” rice (samgak gimbap), four times the regular size.
Last year they had a big-cup coffee for 1,700 KRW (1.30 USD), similar to Starbucks’ largest size.
These “go big” products have sold over 80 million in total since 2014.
Another major convenience store chain, GS25, is focusing on noodles.
After their 8-in-1 instant noodle package was a huge hit nationwide last year at 1.7 million sold, they’ve added two more types of the big packages.
Together those new noodles have sold over 2.7 million units.
