Sounds, Colors, and Perfumes Awaken Your Senses
It’s Springtime!
When you are very busy with your job or school, you don’t notice things happening around you. People talk to you about movies, about friends they meet, but deep inside you don’t care. Because your goal is taking all your time and energy, and it is making you dumb to external inputs. It also makes you feel focused, and it makes the other things seem less interesting.
You don’t enjoy life, you don’t feel anything. Poor you!
Then, one day you complete your task and, whatever the result, you are free. Suddenly, you open your eyes and see that everything changed without you and that life went on and the world outside your mind is simply gorgeous. How could you be so silly not to notice it?
That’s the way I feel when winter is over, and springtime finally arrives. I have been living in survival mode for months, avoiding staying out for too long, limiting my walks and bike rides because it is actually too cold, and then something happens.
One morning, while I’m still asleep, I hear a bird sing. No more silence! Winter is over! I rush to look outside the window. Yet, I wait for one more sign, the most important one: I open the window and smell the air.
When you smell the fresh air and it reminds you of flowers, wood, grass, and rain; when you actually smell something and don’t ask yourself: have I lost my sense of smell? Then it’s springtime to me.
It all has to do with the senses, life starts again and I live again, and that’s my sixth sense: the energy and excitement at being here, enjoying a new season, watching signs of rebirth.
Thank you Trista Signe Ainsworth for your prompt and for the lovely pictures of flowers!
