Opinions

  • The Ontario College of Psychologists' investigation into Jordan Peterson is seen as a politically partisan move aimed at silencing differing viewpoints.
  • Peterson's public statements are defended as being grounded in truth and are described as more centrist than extreme, except for his views on climate change.
  • The author believes that the College's attempt to disbar Peterson and require re-education is reminiscent of Orwellian control and will likely backfire.
  • Peterson is characterized as highly intelligent, caring about society, and committed to defending free speech in Canada, particularly against laws that could criminalize the non-use of requested pronouns.

  • Peterson's arguments with feminists are addressed, with the author stating that Peterson advocates for equal opportunity and believes that data supports the notion that personal choices, rather than system

Sorry, but most of what Jordan Peterson says is demonstrably true

Does the Ontario College of Psychologists really want to prove how politically partisan they are?

To everyone?

By disbarring him?

Because he preaches thinking different to the liberal lefty mindset?

Sentiments that are actually more centrist than extreme? (Except on climate change where he is mistakenly overly ‘righty’, IMO).

And making him undergo . . re-education? Re-education! Indoctrination more like it. Doesn’t this sound like Big Brother?

It’s going to hugely backfire.

Peterson is extremely smart (and actually highly caring about society).

He’s not going to let highly partisan authorities get away with it Scott free. Even if it looks for a while like they do.

This is very dumb on the College’s part because the truth is on Peterson’s side.

The College of Psychologists of Ontario seeks to disbar Jordan Peterson following an investigation into his public statements, which the College has deemed potentially “disgraceful, dishonourable, and/or unprofessional”.

But these comments he makes are almost all demonstrably true (even if occasionally in poor taste). Not to mention completely unrelated to his work running a psychology consultancy.

Political correctness

For example he stated that the politically correct claims that a fat woman was attractive on a particular advertisement was an example of the lies that the PC / woke movement tries to get us to say and believe.

Poor taste maybe.

But it was probably true. Let’s be frank.

Free speech

Peterson has stood firm on the issue of free speech in Canada, under threat by attempts to make it an actual crime to not use requested pronouns.

Most of the reasons people think Peterson is a bigot are actually founded on disinformation.

For instance, he has stated many times that he actually personally does use people’s requested pronouns.

He’s actually a really nice guy, a personable and fascinating gentleman.

But he’s just against the Canadian government outlawing free speech on principle. Do mainstream reports ever point this out? Of course not. Or rarely.

Equality

Secondly, he often argues with feminists who claim he doesn’t want equality for women.

But he explains every single time, that (1) he does want equal opportunity and (2) the data shows that the exact same factors that cause some women not to get top-draw salaries also applies equally to men.

When you measure it.

But (3) more women than men choose to put themselves into those lower-earning potential categories by not being as career focussed or as aggressive as men.

The remaining barriers to women having equal opportunity are incredibly small now.

The data shows the remaining barriers are primarily due to personal choices now.

Not ingrained bias.

But stating that scientific truth – measured via multivariate analysis – makes Peterson a bigot.

When we actually listen to what Peterson says he’s just a fountain of empathy-laden wisdom.

It amounts to pushing moderate centrist views.

These common sense views – backed by data – just seem right wing when you compare them to those of the militant left.

Peterson’s greatest accomplishment is his continued speaking into men’s and boys’ lives.

Giving them self-respect and purpose. And respect for women.

My three 20+ year old sons won’t shut up about him, I should know. They introduced me to him, not the other way around.

They even start the day by making their beds most days.

Because Peterson told them why they should.
