Sonnet of Sin

Another poem sparked by one of my favorite lyrics

Writer’s Note:

A short while ago I published a love rondeau using a portion of one of my favorite lyrics, from the band R.E.M., as my title and refrain.

I decided to follow that up with a poem based upon my favorite lyric in my favorite song by my second favorite band, The Clash. It is not a love poem. I knew I could adapt the lyric into the GG couplet that closes off a sonnet, and thus built the poem somewhat backward.

Human beings and our imperfections Will our egos allow to make amends? Will our souls radiate good vibrations? Or will we live in shadows till the end?

Will we suffer the weight of life’s pressures? Or find our way back to the Love and Light? Will we fall prey to schisms and fissures? Or listen to wisdom of Source so bright?

Will we judge ourselves and others harshly as all too many from the pulpits preach? Or simply look within all so smartly? Personal spirit leads back from the breach

Believe this it’s been tested by research He who fucks nuns will later join the church

I believe this sonnet was also impacted by this great story I read today by Jodie Helm:

This song, another favorite of mine, that synchronously came on my shuffle play while writing the poem definitely impacted the second stanza:

Whoops, I almost forgot that one line in the first stanza grew out of this song that also synchronously played:
