Sometimes when we sit down to write, we get in our own way.

Let’s face it — when we write, we write for a perceived public and focus on our readers who do not yet exist. Whatever we are working on, we put pressure on ourselves right at the beginning.

Instead of brainstorming or free writing, we seek perfection in the first draft.

Seem familiar?

The result is not focusing on the creative process and letting perfect be the enemy of the good.

How about now, does that seem familiar?

This is one reason I have written so little recently; I got lost in the audience that does not yet exist dilemma.

To tackle this, I will dust myself off and write each day this week through the short form article format Medium offers.

Check back tomorrow; I will let you know how it goes!
