Sometimes, Give Your Emotions the Privilege They Deserve
That’s the least you can do to be in touch with them.
What’s that one thing that differentiates us from artificial intelligence?
A few days back, I read something on Twitter by Eve Arnold (The Medium world knows who she is). And I must say, what a great start to the day for having read it.
She was advising all the writers — to add emotions to their writing.
People connect with our emotions. Well, emotions are what makes humans — humans. Isn’t it?
Our emotions are what differentiate us from artificial intelligence.
When we writers pour our emotions onto that paper — okay on the screen (for online writers like us), the readers out there can feel the depth of what we write.
If you want your story to stand out, try doing it. Write what you truly feel or believe in. Of course, this doesn’t apply to the tech-based/science-based articles, because there you are stating facts. But, I hope you understand, what context I am referring to.
If something made you smile, write about it. If something made you cry, write about it. If something triggered you, write about it.
When we write our emotions out, we are being true to ourselves. And trust me, as a writer, this is the first and foremost rule of writing.
Let each word you weave onto the paper tell a story that speaks of who you are. Let the world know the stories you are so shy of sharing with anybody.
Try putting yourself out there in the world of readers and writers, because someone is looking forward to what you’ve got to share.
In the times when everyone wants to be someone else, when everyone wants to speak other people’s minds, let them know how liberating it is to speak one’s own mind.
Let the world know what it’s like to be oneself.
Remember, your emotions might be made fun of because critics are everywhere. But, write them out because someone is going to resonate with those feelings of yours.
Accept wherever and whenever you go wrong because we writers are humans too. Aren’t we? So, why not give ourselves the privilege of being one?
Have a happy read people! :) Also, if you are on Twitter, we can get connected here.
