Sometimes experience is the only way to learn
Experience helps you to learn and understand more
Knowing and having experience are two completely different things. There are certain lessons you just cannot teach, the only way to learn them is through experience. Before we go into this testimony on how I am should realization, let me give you the back story.
A few weeks ago, I paused the writing on Medium due to personal reasons. Many writing articles explained the importance of writing consistently to maintain high views and build an audience. But I just did not believe it. Instead, I underestimated the power of new content.
After 2 weeks and only 3 articles, the number of new followers and views began to decline slowly. I was so busy it didn’t occur to me to check. I figured by some miracle my articles would make it into the rotation and more persons will continue to see them. Nope, I was dead wrong. As life got busier for me, I spent less and less time writing and more time dreaming.
Until last week, I had no clue just how much I was suffering as a writer. My profile suffered the most from my writing deficiency. Views moved from 26+ daily, though a smaller number, to under 10. New followers week fall to 1 weekly from 5–6. You may be wondering this wasn’t a lot, to begin with. But it was 100% better than where I began, and therefore means a lot to me.
Experience is a learning process
This, my experience, thought me and can teach a few important lessons to all aspiring writers.
- Consistency is key to a productive future.
- Try to publish at least 1 article every 2 days.
- Life can get in the way of, but find a way to make writing work.
- Keep your audience entertained.
Consistency is key to a productive future
Now I understand the true importance of being consistent in everything I do. Many articles and people will try to explain, precisely like am trying to do now, the importance of being consistent. But this is a lesson best though through experience. So take this article as a word of caution.
Another word of caution, don’t only apply this concept to writing, to every aspect of your life. It is important to always be consistent in whatever you do. It keeps the mind sharp and your skills sharp. It grows relationships and improved productivity.
Try to publish 1 article every 2 days.
It’s funny that I am writing this article on the first night of vacation. But I am beyond happy to be writing again. Now is the time for me to establish a strict writing guide. I am never short of good topics to write about. But time is always an element that’s hard to pin down.
So my advice is if writing brings you peace of mind and rest then use that time and the lessons learned throughout the day to bring in more views and followers. I mean this is a win-win situation.
Life can sometimes get in the way
Life is life. There is no going around it, the path the straight through. Therefore, go head-on and work to the end. I often say to myself “No retreat, no surrender”! Because that’s just how you have to deal with life.
There will be time for redemption after you have dealt with whatever problems you may have. In the little periods of rest through your battle, use writing as a vent for your emotion. Use the opportunity to produce an article that will beneficial to someone else.
Keep your audience entertained.
I realized many persons turn to articles to escape the madness in the world. Often many seek hope and inspiration, so be 1. There will be times to write about popular topics to earn more views.
Writing is not only about the skill to produce great captivating articles, it takes consistency. I didn’t understand this concept until I had my own experience. I am thankful to have learned much from this experience and now I am sharing it with you.
