Something Beautiful Happened When I Started Meditating

Photo by author — Discovering “new” colors in the garden

Last year while experiencing few muscular related pain I was adviced to try meditation in parallel to few other things I had been trying with little success. So that is how I started my meditation journey. A year before that again, one would have suggested me the practice of meditation I would have said “no thanks, that ain’t for me”. Pre-meditation I used to be restless with the need to always be doing something otherwise I would feel like something was odd and disturbing: literally “no chill” kinda. The simple fact of sitting and watch TV or any other streaming platform would leave me thinking that I am wasting my time while I could be doing something more productive and valuable.

This year during lockdown I took on the Deepak Chopra 21 days Meditation challenge and few things happened. In this previous article I enumerated and developed few of the benefits I noticed.

Today I share with you something else I recently discovered and find beautiful: I can hear the birds sing and I notice new colors in the garden that I had not noticed for the past 4 years while living in this same place. Amazing!

I can hear the birds sing and it feels so comforting and relaxing.

I mostly give credit to meditation, mindfulness; but there’s also the other factor that I spend more time home which increase my attention towards my near surroundings. The fact of being often home makes me realize the unseen treasures around me. I had not noticed this because pre-lockdown, «home» was that place I leave very early in the morning heading to work, get back at the end of the day to cook, eat, play with the little one and sleep. I had no time to break the routine to hear the birds sing even though they may have been singing. Now I can hear the birds sing in the morning while waking up, while making food and at the end of the day when there’s calm.

I’m so immensely grateful for that, because that sound is among my favorite songs.

Meditation enhanced my senses tremendously. I am more at ease being still and in the moment without second agendas.

And until next time, take gorgeous care of yourself. You are an essential part of the humanity puzzle.
