Some Writing Days Will Be Worse Than Other Days

It’s a lesson to learn early on in your writing career.

Writing is easy. Writing is hard. Some days, it’s in between, and sometimes, days are worse than others.

Humans aren’t designed to have perfect days all of the time. Mistakes are bound to happen, and we must encounter and learn from them as often as we can, sometimes over a certain period of time. Writing is the same way.

Even when we know what we what to write about, sometimes the words don’t want to come out and be put on paper.

That is why some writing days are worse than others.

Experiencing Writer’s Block

Have you ever experienced writer’s block?

It’s one of those every writer goes through every now and then. It’s when the words don’t come out from mind to paper. It’s when we barely write down any words.

Those days happen to me every now and again. My mind goes blank. I can’t think straight. I question my abilities as a writer.

But then this thought hits me: It’s all part of process. I tell myself that writer’s block will happen and it should happen. If we writers wrote great amounts of work every day, we would then have nothing else to write about.

So, embrace your writer’s block. If it grows too bad, here what you should do.

How to Combat Writer’s Block

When the words aren’t coming out, when you don’t feel like writing, when you begin to question everything about the act of writing, walk away from it. Just simply walk away.

I heard Stephen King once say that anything he writes, he lets it germinate and grow in his desk for a few days or a week. This way, he can come back with a fresh mind to write again. I also heard him say he hatches his best ideas on a daily walk.

I do this too. Walking helps me hatch ideas of my own and think about the pieces I am writing in a new perspective. As my blood is pumping from the exercise, so are my thoughts for the story.

This is how I combat writer’s block. It’s a method that works for me, and if you haven’t tried it, it could work for you too.

Closing Thoughts

The act of writing is like anything else if you wish to grow better at the craft and artform. It takes time, dedication, determination, and some imagination. However, if you enjoy it enough, you will keep doing it.

If you love what you do, you will find a way to do it. I love writing. It’s my artform in which I can express myself while also having fun.

I know that some days will be worse than others, but it’s all in the journey of my success. Have worse writing days than others is something we all have to overcome.

I have, and I know you will too.
