Some of the World’s Largest Things
And the photos I took of them

We found the small town of Casey, Illinois a couple years ago just off Interstate 70 traveling from Ohio to Missouri. It is an exit about half way between Indianapolis and St. Louis. This is one of the coolest, must-see little towns in America.
As soon as you get into town you see these really large antlers to the right side of the road, and a really large coin in front of a bank on the left side of the road.
The town is home to several attractions that Guinness World Records has officially recognized as the largest in the world, and some other large items that didn’t quite make the cut. But the small town of Casey, and big builder resident Jim Bolin, is trying to make a big mark on the world.
World’s Largest Wind Chime

Be sure to stop by the visitor center and get a map to all of the local attractions or you will miss a lot of them. The first item we looked up was the wind chime that started it all. It was built in 2011 by town resident Jim Bolin. It stands 55 feet tall.
Right across the street from the wind chimes is the World’s Largest Rocking Chair at 32 feet tall and weighing over 40,000 pounds. Jim Bolin is the creator of all the large items in the town of Casey. His idea to get people off the interstate was a pretty good one.
World’s Largest Rocking Chair

World’s Largest Bird Cage

The World’s Largest Bird Cage is just a block away and visitors are welcome to go inside the bird cage and have a seat. You can even swing on it. What a great photo opportunity. Across the street from the bird cage is the World’s Largest Mailbox.
World’s Largest Mailbox

The mailbox is over 30 feet tall and two flights of metal stairs in the rear give visitors access to climb up and walk into the huge inside compartment of the mail box. Stand at the front and have someone take your photo.
World’s Largest Pencil

The World’s Largest Pencil is just a couple blocks down from the rocking chair and wind chime on main street. It is the longest pencil in the world at 32.5 feet. I read one article that said this pencil is not actually the world’s largest, but even so, it is one big pencil.
World’s Largest Barbershop Pole

The Barbershop Pole was certified as the world’s largest on September 28, 2019. It stands 14 feet tall and almost 4 feet wide. This barbershop pole actually works which is why it has the Guinness Record. I guess there are some other large barbershop poles in the world that are bigger but they are not real and don’t work. We had so much fun walking around this town and seeing all of the large roadside attractions.
Giant Yardstick

It might not be the world’s largest, but this giant yardstick is pretty big at 36 feet long. I couldn’t find proof that it is the largest in the world.
Giant Baseball Bat

The baseball bat isn’t the largest in the world either but it was still cool to see. And what a fun photo opportunity this one is. I wished the grandkids were with us this day.
Some of the other large items in town included a bicycle, an ear of corn, a cactus, a key, a pokemon ball, a golf club, and a spinning top. This is a great destination for families with children.

The small town of Casey, Illinois is definitely a fun roadside attraction.
While in Texas, we have seen the World’s Largest Rattlesnake and the World’s Largest Killer Bee which you can read about below.
There are more large things in Casey, Illinois. I didn’t get pictures of them all. Some of the large items, like the World’s Largest Knitting Needles, were inside stores, and the World’s Largest Wooden Gavel was in the next town at the courthouse. We were on our way through on another trip and decided to stop for an hour or so, see the attractions, and eat a picnic lunch. This would be a great place to park the RV for a weekend.
As we travel around the country I am always on the lookout for strange and unusual things like this to see. Stay tuned for my next article, whatever it is about.
