22 Great Rick Springfield Songs That Are Not ‘Jessie’s Girl’

A tribute to one of my all-time favorite musicians

Rick Springfield has been one of my favorite musicians since his “Working Class Dog” album came out in 1981. While the songs “Love Is Alright Tonight” and “I’ve Done Everything For You” were big hits from it, the biggest hit was undoubtedly “Jessie’s Girl.”

For the record (pun intended), the title of my article here is in no way slamming that song. It’s a great tune and I love it.

However…

Whenever Rick is played on the radio or featured on some sort of “Best Songs of the ‘80s” playlist somewhere, the song is more often than not going to be “Jessie’s Girl.” He had several other hits, mostly throughout the 1980s, but most of them sadly seem to be sort of forgotten now by a lot of people.

He also had a lot of other fantastic music that was never popular on the radio. In fact, most of my favorite songs by Rick were never released as singles.

So, here are some of my favorite Rick Springfield songs that are not “Jessie’s Girl.” I’ve included a few that were hits, but you probably don’t know a lot of the others songs here unless you’ve listened to his studio albums.

Check out these 22 great songs by my old friend Rick:

I also want to highlight some of the fun music videos he made over the years. Check these out:

And this one below has always been one of my favorite music videos from Rick. He plays a few different characters in this one: a host of a children’s show named “Uncle Dick,” a sleazy-looking lounge singer, and himself, singing the song in a post-apocalyptic setting. Very unique and highly entertaining video. Plus, the song rocks!

The next two are just the songs only, without actual music videos to go with them. They’re on the Spotify playlist, but I wanted to highlight them since they’re two of my absolute favorites from Rick.

Rick wrote “Act of Faith” for a friend who recently lost her husband in an accident. Beautiful song. I especially love when he sings and repeats the line “Here’s my heart, my love is in it.”

“In Veronica’s Head” is also from Rick’s “Karma” album, which I’d rank in my personal Top Three Favorite Albums by him. This song rocks! I especially love the last minute and a half (or so) of it. Did I mention that it rocks? Oh yeah — I love it!

And I’m only going up to the year 1999 with all of the above. Rick has released several good albums since then.

Hmmm. Maybe I’ll need to do a sequel to this article some time in the future.

And, since I’m a nice guy and it feels wrong to not include this one…
