Some Comments From A Story About A Homeless Woman
Everyone does not favor helping refugees
The woman seemed to be temporarily homeless
After my wife and I met a woman and gave her a ride, an article was written to tell of the experience. She had been struggling with some large bags while walking along the sidewalk. We did not think she was homeless and thought she must live nearby.
The woman was homeless on a temporary basis and had been shopping. We took her to the homeless shelter for women where she was staying. She said her husband had left her, and she felt fortunate to be accepted to stay at the shelter. She hoped to find a job and a place to live.
There were several comments to the article. One appeared to be from the homeless woman. She expressed gratitude and said she never expected to see our encounter written up. We never expected that she would be reading it.
A woman commented that it is very depressing to see people living in the street. She said she is angry at the government and state officials. She wondered about why the numbers of homeless are growing. She felt that there should be more shelters built and staffed to house the homeless.
One person left a comment that the woman had probably robbed the store. That was highly unlikely, but she must have had more money than most homeless people to be able to have bags of purchases.
Someone said: “Homeless are humans too…humanity only has one another…why not be there for our fellow human beings? Empathy and kindness with love in one’s heart can make a difference. A cold heart turns away with no concern.”
Another comment said: “We need more people to be kind. Not all homeless people are alcoholics or drug addicts. It can happen to anyone, especially with the housing crisis which is present.”
Refugees from Afghanistan have been welcomed into the United States and given aid. Now refugees are leaving Ukraine after the invasion by Russia into their country. These people usually leave with virtually nothing and must have help.
There were other mean comments about refugees that said that the government should be helping their own homeless people in the United States rather than spend so much money helping refugees.
The ideal for homeless people is to escape that way of life. Homeless shelters are a temporary means of receiving shelter and basic necessities, but more permanent solutions must be found.
The world is in turmoil. There are a multitude of problems including the homeless and refugee situations. A lot of help is needed. Those who have much could provide some assistance and financial help to those in need.
