Some Challenges Of Growing To A Ripe Old Age
Millions of people will experience becoming elderly
Old age can be golden or not.
Although it is generally considered a blessing to live to a ripe old age, most people would agree that the so called golden years are not always golden. Many people are healthy, wealthy, and wise into their later years, but there are challenges which come specifically to old people.
Young people can have medical and health problems. They can have financial worries and relationship problems. They may suffer from accidents or family issues. Those problems may happen to young people, but they are almost certain to come to many old people as they age.
People who are able to continue with a meaningful and active life into their eighties and nineties are blessed. If they are not confined to a nursing home with almost no mobility, they should be grateful. There are millions who are enjoying old age even with its challenges.
Some challenges or problems which might show up for older people are:
Seeing a dip in energy level. You can’t do as much as when you were young.
Wrinkles. Everyone who reaches old age normally gets more wrinkles.
Poor memory. It may be more difficult to remember things and people.
Fewer friends. There may be less friends because of old age.
Sleep problems. Some older people have a hard time getting enough sleep.
Financial troubles. Enough money may not be readily available for needs.
Less mobility. This means that there can be less movement and interaction.
Hearing and vision decline. Most older people begin to see these changes.
Risk of falling. Many older people have falls which can be serious.
The problems and challenges listed are normal and may be coped with effectively to continue having an active life. If there are more serious problems like Alzheimer's disease and severe Dementia or physical concerns like cancer or other illnesses which come into play, life can become trying for the older person and for family members.
Old age can be golden, fun, enriching, satisfying, and joyful even though there will be challenges.
