Soaring Soles
Lifting my soul

As I ran up and down my beloved shady paths of Ancil Hoffman Park, my thoughts ran in tandem with my soaring soles and lifted my soul into a synergistic symphony of soft sounds that my On shoes made with each step and smile, a reminder of how lucky I was to have found running in my early 40s.
As I ran up and down small hills, I grinned with gratitude, for I realized that running is the sum of soaring soles that uplift and elevate my soul.
Soaring soles of serenity, soaring soles of serendipity, simply soaring soles.
Running has become my reason d’etre, infinite joy, and my modus vivendi. However, I don’t think that my poems and explanations are able to fully describe the poetry in motion that I have discovered through running, but I will strive to show you and tell you about my running exuberance any chance I have, so be careful what you wish for.
The beauty of running is that it is a sport that encourages solitude or togetherness. When I run solo I discover small details from leaves and dancing fog on a winter day to soaring soles. When I run with friends, I relish our conversations and the laughter in between deep breaths that match our soaring soles.
And yet, the best thing that running brought into my life is poetry.
When I became a runner, I started writing poems in my head to pass the time and obliterate any little aches and pains that I felt as a new runner.
With each step I took, a new stanza sauntered in my thoughts that needed to be written down when I returned home and become a poem of my soaring soul and soles.
Do you see what I mean?
Running is magical and serendipitous! Running has turned me into a poet. Poetry is running and running is poetry.
