Summary

The website content discusses the controversial decision of a small-town restaurant owner to defy state and county regulations by offering dine-in services during a pandemic, drawing both support and criticism on social media.

Abstract

In the context of a global health crisis, a restaurant owner in a small town with a population of approximately 6,200 people has decided to open for dine-in services, directly opposing the Governor's orders. This act of defiance has sparked a local debate on the balance between personal freedoms and public health. The owner justifies her actions as a stand for liberty, garnering praise from patrons who feel safe dining at her establishment despite the risks. However, there is significant backlash from those who view this as an irresponsible act that could lead to further spread of the virus. The owner's decision has been publicized through local news and a Facebook page, where opinions are polarized. Some commenters applaud her bravery and food, while others criticize the potential health consequences and the labeling of dissenters as "haters."

Opinions

  • The author, Sherry McGuinn, expresses frustration with the current state of American intelligence, blaming the Republican stance on taxes for underfunded schools and consequent public ignorance.
  • There is a critical view of contemporary Americans compared to the Greatest Generation, highlighting a perceived lack of civic responsibility and sacrifice.
  • The restaurant owner is portrayed as seeing herself as a courageous rebel, yet her actions are deemed irresponsible by some, including the author, who believes they contribute to the spread of misinformation and the virus itself.
  • The author is particularly critical of the restaurant's lack of adherence to CDC guidelines, specifically the server not wearing a mask.
  • The author's stance is reinforced by the inclusion of social media posts that both support and oppose the restaurant owner's decision, with a notable concern for public health.
  • The author expresses a wish for those who ignore safety measures to experience the severity of the virus firsthand, as a means to educate them on its seriousness.

So Much To Spew, So Little Time

When did spreading a deadly illness become an act of courageous patriotism?

Well, Sherry McGuinn, I have so much to spew about, but I’ll limit it to this local story.

How did Americans get so stupid?

Never mind, that’s a rhetorical question; they got so stupid because Republicans refuse to spend money on anything, including schools. And they’ve convinced the stupid Americans that taxes, any kind of taxes including school taxes, are bad. Republicans prefer people to be stupid because that way they can be more easily led by the nose.

Can you imagine what my parents, of the Greatest Generation, both veterans of WWII, would think about people whining about getting take-out instead of dining in?

The generation that bought victory bonds, had victory gardens, who collected scrap metal to contribute to the manufacture of weapons, whose copper pennies were minted in lead to save the copper, and who went by the tens of thousands to die overseas?

And now stupid Americans can’t bear even to stay at home. Stupid Americans can’t understand how a virus spreads. Stupid Americans believe anything they hear or read or see in a fake video. Stupid Americans can’t be bothered to listen to or read what the CDC says. Stupid Americans can’t be bothered to respond to the 2020 Census.

What the fuck???

A restaurant in a small town, with a population of about 6,200 people, has decided to open up and offer dine-in services.

They are going against the orders of the Governor, who is trying to loosen the regulations county by county, depending on their numbers. This county is not yet allowing dine-in services, by order of the governor and the county executive.

The owner of this restaurant was featured on the local news. She said somebody had to take a stand, so she did. Is this news, FFS? I guess somebody robbing a bank is news, so opening this diner is news because it’s also breaking the law.

The owner feels like she’s some kind of brave rebel. Her restaurant’s Facebook page is filled with people congratulating her for going against the Governor and talking about how safe they felt eating at her place and how good her food is.

On the TV news story they showed that tables are far apart and she’s limiting her capacity. But then they showed a server waiting on a table without a fucking mask.

And the owner claims somebody “snitched” on her about being open.

For fuck’s sake, she was in the local paper and on the TV news. If she wanted to keep it a secret, she could have declined those interviews.

So her Facebook page is filled with people congratulating her on breaking the law and praising her food.

But like the good guy below pointed out, somebody can pick up the virus eating in the damned restaurant, getting served food from the waitress without a mask.

Since she was on TV, people from all over the county are responding. So they’ll go to the restaurant, pick up the virus, and spread it out all over the county.

And, get this, the few people who commented that they wouldn’t go or who talked about spreading the virus are called haters!!!

I’ll close with some posts from the restaurant’s Facebook page. Sorry for the image quality, I didn’t frame them because I’m in too much of a hurry to piss around with Photoshop.

I left the posters’ names on because anything you put on Facebook is public comment.

First, here’s a post that expresses the general consensus of the comments:

And here’s a good guy responding to what the owner said in a previous post:

Finally, here are the real haters calling other people haters:

Finally, this one contains a threat. And, again, remember that the owner was in the fucking paper and on TV. So there was no “snitch.”

I am fucking sick of these idiots. I hope they get very, very sick. I hope they spend a month in the hospital. I hope they have to go on a ventilator but then survive to tell people this virus is no trivial thing.

That is all.
