Snowfall in Luoyang City

Beginning the Winter of Hope

Photo by Qiao Bo in www.iloveluoyang.com

Tis the first day of December;

As the City sleeps,

Sheets of first snow fell

From the heavens on the mountains

Of ancient Luoyang;

Spreading a white sheet

Making virgin again the City.

As the City sleeps,

Heavens came down

Shining the City behind a mantle

As white like a star once more;

Purifying the City as she dances

With her beloved in the cold breeze;

Snow like little snowflake elves flutters

Ever elegantly so chilling, beautiful and free,

Blanketing the City sights more and more

As snowflakes blind and spread out

To cover the City with her loving wings

“It’s safe now”, she whispers,

“The past is now beneath all this snow”.

At dawn, Luoyang residents awake to the first snowfall;

Its scent of hope and freshness,

Dazzled by its sparkles,

Refreshed by its newness.

It’s time to put on a scarf and gloves,

No matter how busy and shaky,

Remember to care for yourself

As you embark on the long journey

Into tomorrow’s hope in the post-pandemic era.

A new year beckons,

2021 is just days away,

2020 is ending,

Leaving the covid19 menace behind,

Be ready for new beginnings;

Regain your confidence in yourself,

Discard your fear of death for the life awaiting,

Gather the courage to take charge,

Leave your loss and grief behind,

Let whatever passed become past,

Reach out beyond your grasp,

Find hope in the impossible,

Create opportunities among none,

Believe in yourself, counting on no one,

For 2021 will not be like 2020.

The snow continues to fall

Forming bumps, curbs and drifts;

It wraps herself around us

Concealing us in her cocoon,

Encircled, we struggle as we are embraced,

For the rapture soon,

To be joyful when freed to last;

We feel alive in the snowfall

Awaiting rebirth.
