An introduction

Shhh… I like being invisible because I believe like the moon, we must go through phases of emptiness to feel full again. And today, I’ll let you in.

Writing didn’t happen to me all of a sudden. It has always been there tip-toeing alongside me like an age-old confidant. I remember wasting my Sunday afternoons scribbling poems in a notebook till I ran out of ideas and went back to chasing butterflies only to return with my little fingers dusted with yellow pollen. I still fail to understand why some people equate poetry with sorrow. Poetry, for me, has always been a conduit for ideas, a vent for creativity that should be best left to flow effortlessly.

I am a voracious reader. And a bibliophile, to be precise. There’s something about the smell of books that gets me going. Born and brought up in an Indian middle class family, studies were always a priority. No wonder, medical school was my kind of place because Biology intrigued me and doctors seemed awe-inspiring to me. Hailing from a non-medical background, clearing MBBS was a leap of faith for me. Presently, I am pursuing my MD in Anaesthesiology from a Government Medical College in India. Although the ever so long residency hours leave little room for creative thinking, writing my heart out on Medium has been a saviour of sorts. My kid sister introduced me to this community and I can’t thank her enough.

Vincent Van Gogh had said, “I’d rather die of passion than boredom.” ILLUMINATION is one such place that offers variety. I find myself resonate perfectly with it which is why today I’m here, telling you my side of the story. Each of us has a unique part to play in the healing of the world. I want to play mine to perfection.

A nature lover to the core- when I’m not working, I’m probably sitting atop a hillock, painting the evening skyline. Or experimenting with black and white charcoal pencils, sketching Kate Winslet or Audrey Hepburn, who knows? Otherwise you may have to do a little homework to hunt me down. Hint: ‘Biblichor’ is the word and I love my coffee strong.

Signing off, Dr. Nikita.
