SNAPSHOTS Mini Challenge
Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue
Yes, this is traditionally an expression used for brides and weddings. No, there’s no such thing as a traditional wedding anymore…so we want to go non-traditional on the expression, as well. In fact, let’s skip all things wedding for this challenge. Let’s stick with everything else you love that is old, new, borrowed, and/or blue — the sky’s the limit (and also blue!).
Specifically:
- Your submission must include all four categories — old, new, borrowed, and blue.
- You can include all four categories in one image, or broken into four, or ten — we don’t care! Of course, some sort of theme would be ideal. See the examples below.
- Again, exclude weddings; they hog enough of the world’s photographs.
- Please explain what makes something old / new / borrowed / blue if it isn’t obvious (for example, blue) in the image.
- Make “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue” your subtitle. (We know, it’s long. That’s why they invented copy/paste.)
- Please use the tags photography and something.
- All other SNAPSHOTS submission rules apply.
An example
The above photo of a painting contains all four parts of the challenge. Created in 1970 — relatively new by art standards — it represents patriarchal authority, white supremacy, and unquestioning patriotism — concepts almost as old as humankind. The painting sits in the Smithsonian on loan (i.e., borrowed) from the Brooklyn Museum. I’ll leave the “blue” part up to your eyes.
