Slow Down and Enjoy Unexpected Moments
Six-word photo story: Freestyle
Slow down! You’re going too fast!
The North Head Trail in St. John’s, Newfoundland provides spectacular views of The Narrows, the aptly named constriction between the two headlands that mariners must navigate when entering and leaving the natural harbor. The trail follows the road until it dead-ends at the bottom of a steep cliff. Hikers tend to rush along the somewhat unsightly trailhead, eager to trade the paved road for the dirt path and sweeping vistas of the North Atlantic Ocean.
On this occasion, however, I rounded a bend in the road at just the right moment, catching a rather large vessel navigating The Narrows. The composition of the image, with the speed limit sign in the foreground, as if reminding seafarers to watch their speed, made me chuckle. On the contrary, the ship passed through The Narrows rather quickly, and had I rushed along with my head down, I would have missed the whole scene.
