Slay the Dragons
A poem in response to Ideastream 100

She stood amidst the rousing chaos. Ingénue en route to slay the political dragons, A knapsack of idealism, courage, pertinacity, Slung over her right shoulder, Nonchalant as a summery breeze.
Determined to eradicate turpitude and corruption Her fresh, clean stance like a dulcimer, Singing soft notes carried on the winds, Immune to the old scaly dragons and their ensorcell, putrifying the people.
Is she the last hope? A finality, Quixotic, her immunity conjuring a future Knowing no bounds. Boundless, With plains to share. A continent of confidence. A Pandora’s Box, this lagniappe.
She strides out to meet her beastly fiends, Their foul breath and toxic flames Pestilence for the masses, inhaled for every meal. No abeyance, no quiescence, she’s a cool, Fiery blockade. A synecdoche, a metaphor, For the embodiment of belief and optimism.
And slay the wicked dragons, she shall. In a blaze of putrid burning flesh Her cool calmness wiping out the old, Crusty, parasitic, world-ruling, dragon-monstrosities. A wave of hopefulness, rising high, bright, Shining. An antidote to the poisonous fumes.
Thanks to Xavier Van Holde and his continuous stream of ideas aka Ideastream. This one is #100!

I loved this list of new words. And I admit, I had to look some up, even though a definition had been kindly provided. I often start with images when I write. I get pictures in my head when I read certain words. This word group really brought forward stong images of new beginnings. Of out with the old and in with the new. Of fresh ideas and young ideas. Perhaps this is because the world has paused. We are in a unique time. It offers up so many opportunities for change at a global level. For the calm voices. The Jacinda Aderns and the Sanna Marins of the political world. The fiesty young politicians who possess empathy and words of cool wisdom so clearly lacking with the stuffed suits so usual in the political realm.
Oh, for the fresh air.
