Six Reasons You Need a Goldendoodle

You won’t regret it!

When our Boston Terrier and Greyhound passed on, my son wanted to get another dog. We were used to having a pet and felt as if something was missing.

My son is eleven and doesn’t know his own strength. We needed a more substantial dog so he wouldn’t unintentionally hurt it by being too rough.

We considered many breeds and their characteristics before taking the puppy plunge. We explored the temperament, health conditions, how active the dog is, size and shedding. After lots of research, a Goldendoodle fit the bill.

Let me tell you why I think Goldendoodles are great dogs and why you should get one:

1. They have a wonderful temperament:

Goldendoodles are patient, loving, and fun. Our dog is always up for a walk, a game, or wrestling with my son. They are athletic and will go on a hike but are just as happy to cuddle on the couch. They are active but not overly. They love everyone and like to have attention and lots and lots of love. They adore their people and enjoy being part of the family.

Warning: They are definitely not a watchdog unless it’s possible to lick someone to death!

2. They don’t shed:

My other dogs had coarse hair, so I was used to having dog hair all over me. I spent a small fortune on clothing rollers, so I didn’t look like I was growing fur myself. I bought high-end vacuums and still could not get the hair embedded in the rug out.

Goldendoodles don’t shed, so I don’t mind if my dog is on the couch or in my bed. She can sit on my lap (they think they are lap dogs), and I won’t find her fuzz anywhere on me.

Sometimes I may find an occasional “fur bunny” floating across my floor if she was being brushed.

3. Their fur is considered hypoallergenic:

If you are concerned about getting a dog due to allergies then a Goldendoodle is right for you. Because they have fur insted of hair they don’t shed and you will not find pet dander on them, which is the cause of most allergic reactions.

4. They are very smart:

Our Goldendoodle was crate and potty trained so quickly. We started teaching her tricks as a puppy, and she learned them in record time. Goldendoodles are very intuitive. They seem to know when someone in the family needs some extra loving and attention from them.

Golden doodles are bred from a Poodle and Golden Retriever, which are considered two of the most intelligent dogs.

5. They don’t have a lot of health issues:

One of the things we found with having dogs and researching breeds is that many dogs have lots of health problems especially when they get older. Because Goldendoodles are crossbred they tend to have less medical problems but sometimes they can inherit certain issues from their parents.

It is crucial to find a reputable breeder that uses correct breeding practices so that there is less of a chance of genetic health issues.

6. They are like having a living stress toy:

Goldendoodles are like having a real-life teddy bear. They are super cuddly, and their fur is so soft. If I feel anxious, my girl is always ready to snuggle and lay on my lap or chest.

If you own a Goldendoodle, there is no need to purchase a weighted blanket or a stress ball. They are willing to drape you in their love and be caressed.

When deciding on a dog, there is so much to think about, and it comes down to personal preference. But I have to say that my Goldendoodle is one of the sweetest, most affectionate dogs I have ever had.

We love her so much; she is a cuddle bug and loves to put her paws around us and hug us. I highly recommend this breed. Remember, furry kids are a huge responsibility, so when getting a new puppy, do your research because it's a lifetime commitment, their lifetime.
