Why shop organic baby and kid clothes?
Young Eden offers a solution for eco-conscious and health-conscious families seeking sustainable fashion for their children now. Research from the Environmental Working Group found that babies and kids are especially vulnerable to the toxic effects of “forever chemicals” known as perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAs) — and that high levels of these toxins appeared in their assessments of popular baby clothing like onesies, swimwear, raincoats, and more from big fast fashion retailers like Old Navy and Target. In 2018, Harvard’s School of Public Health cited associated health effects of PFAs ranging across cancer, liver damage, decreased fertility, and increased risk of asthma and thyroid disease.
Fashion FWD, a nonprofit organization committed to building awareness about the world need for nontoxic apparel, warns consumers to stay away from textile chemicals including phthalates, APEOS, and PFAs , citing, “Phthalates are endocrine disruptors and these chemicals have been linked to ADHD, asthma, diabetes, and breast cancer, along with a number of reproductive issues. However, phthalates pose the greatest risk to children who may put their contaminated clothing in their mouths.”
As demand for sustainable fashion grows , to counter the growing climate crisis — to which the fast fashion industry contributes an estimated 8–10% of global carbon emissions per year — finding planet-friendlier options of baby and kid clothing can be difficult.
“We are excited to grow Young Eden’s selection of organic baby and kid clothing to share these amazing sustainable fashion brands. We want to give families more choice of high-quality, naturally and ethically sourced clothes for children that are healthier for their bodies and don’t pollute the environment they will inherit,” said Jessica Cooper, Founder and CEO at Young Eden. “Young Eden makes it so simple and eliminates the guesswork in shopping for planet-friendly fashion for babies and kids, saving you time by putting all the best organic brands together in one place.”
