Sinner Winner Medium Dinner!

A sinning sequel

It turns out that Medium readers love reading about sin, even more than viewing my Dik (Dik) pics. Have a look if you dare, you will not be disappointed, and goodness knows how I got them past the Medium censors:

It seems that there are far more than the seven deadly sins I wrote about in my first article. Aren’t we naughty?!

So in the grand tradition of milking a (very unexpected and rare) success, this is a sequel to highlight the appalling story of yet more sins being committed on Medium. In case you missed the first article a link is below.

As a quick reminder, the seven sins in the original article are below.

Serial tagging — we all seem to hate this one.

The single clapper — quite a few people said they hadn’t realised you could clap more than once, so are absolved, and a couple of people said rather unkindly in the comments, that they had very generously given me two claps, which is probably the sin of sarcasm. Someone else, clearly channelling their inner Tony Stubblebine (Medium CEO), said they only clap once on principle.

Clickbait headlines — this does seem to annoy us if the article doesn’t live up to expectations.

The 29-second reader — one reader suggested that playing a game of Candy Crush while reading, uses up about 30 seconds so is a good way to ensure we get to at least 30, though hopefully my articles deserve a little more than divided attention. I was going to suggest my partner’s performance in bed as an alternative timer, but that would be unkind and probably not appropriate.

The stochastic highlighter — one commentator says that they highlight all the smut, so they get bonus sinning points. It is truly shocking the behaviour one comes across on Medium.

The non-reciprocal reader — this seems to annoy quite a few of you, the people who promise to read yours if you read theirs, but never deliver. Such is life.

AI-generated content — this seems universally hated, and rightly so.

The sequel — a growing list of sins

So many sins, so little time. Of equal concern is that some readers are asking me for absolution, which is sadly above my pay grade. Please apply upstairs if you are feeling particularly guilty.

So to get the point, what you have been waiting for with bated breath no doubt, is the extended list of sins. The following were suggested in the comments on the original article, in no particular order:

People complaining about low earnings on Medium — this made me laugh. Do we do anything else?

The followers who never read — I can see this must be annoying.

People who follow thousands of other people just to get followed back — whoops! Probably related to the sin above.

Highlighting smut! — As indicated above, this is outrageous and must be stopped immediately!

People who only follow you to sell you something — Yes, I think we have all had that, even if what is being sold is just a link to their article.

Cloned accounts — This happened to someone I know recently, and the cloner had the audacity, not only to use their name but actually pinched their profile picture to use in the cloned account! Thankfully our good friends in sunny San Francisco, at Medium HQ, dealt with it as soon as reported to them.

Crypto scammers — This happened to me a couple of months ago — funnily enough the scammer was using one of the cloned accounts referred to in the sin above, and asked me to message them on Whatsapp. Since the name (cloned) was quite a well-known personality on the platform, I was quite excited, thinking that my obvious talents had finally been recognised; only to have my hopes dashed, like a kid discovering the truth about Santa Claus, when after some initial rapport building, they mentioned how much they were making on crypto and would I like to invest? (No, duh).

I suspect this sequel is still not the end of the sorry story, of the den of iniquity to be found on Medium! Do share further sins in the comments.
