Simple Spirituality-Finding Balance In Life

The Adiyoga symbolizes inner peace and well-being. Spirituality, to me, has always been about practicing peace and purpose.

“Spirituality is recognizing and celebrating that we are all inextricably connected to each other by a power greater than all of us and that our connection to that power and to one another is grounded in love and compassion. Practicing spirituality brings a sense of perspective, meaning and purpose to our lives.” — Brené Brown.

The concept of spirituality for me has developed over the course of my life.

When I read Dr. Gabriella Korosi's prompt on spirituality, it reminded me of my father, who taught me spiritual values that would sustain me throughout my life.

My father was my inspiration and role model. His kindness and purpose in life were exemplary examples of what spirituality means.

My father used his medical profession to serve the poor and the needy. He donated medicines and offered free-of-cost medical consultations to the poor while his peers in the Government hospital where he worked were busy making money by unfair means. His purpose in life was to be of service to the poor.

My father was a firm believer in the spiritual wisdom of The Bhagavad Gita,

“It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection. The power of God is with you at all times; through the activities of mind, senses, breathing, and emotions; and is constantly doing all the work using you as a mere instrument. A gift is pure when it is given from the heart to the right person at the right time and at the right place, and when we expect nothing in return”. -The Bhagavad Gita

I learned by observing him. He taught me that spirituality was about something other than visiting temples or following rigorous religious practices.

When I pursued my career in engineering, his advice to me was to remain strong through all challenges, stay grounded, work hard and do all my work with total responsibility. Love, trust, kindness, and forgiveness are the keys to maintaining a balanced life, and that is being spiritual.

The world changes, and technology advances, but values like honesty, kindness, and diligence are timeless.

“It does not matter how long you are spending on the earth, how much money you have gathered, or how much attention you have received. It is the amount of positive vibration you have radiated in life that matters.” — Amit Ray.

This quote reminds me of what makes life worth living and to be more mindful of my actions.

To be honest, I am far from achieving a balanced life and practicing complete non-attachment. I still get angry over trivial matters or frustrated over life challenges. My father was always calm, composed, and unaffected by outside noise and chaos. I am learning to be like him.

My spiritual journey is a work in progress.

Thank youDr. Gabriella Korosi for the wonderful prompt.
