Another excellent platform feature and a great way to support other writers.

During this short time that I have been on Simily so far, I am enjoying it more and more. Today, I received a notification in my email that allows members to vote on a “Story of the Month.”

Before, they were doing “Story of the Week.” However, it looks like they are changing things up with the writer in mind to provide a chance for more prolonged exposure.

I don’t know about you, but I think this is refreshing. There have been occasions when I’d hit that “Submit” button on Medium, and it feels like I’m simply feeding some algorithmic beast. After it’s off in the digital world in the hopes for a curation, I’d keep my fingers crossed for a few claps and maybe some comments.

This option on Simily circles back to the idea that it is a community of writers (and readers) helping other writers. Don’t get me wrong, Medium is also a platform with the same kind of philosophy. However, it’s very non-fiction-focused, and the fiction pieces are easily overlooked. That is where Simily stands out. In fact, I don’t see them as competitors as one another, but more like complementary teammates in the world of writing.

I have seen many of my fiction works (and others) have difficulty getting eyes on them. With this voting button, it feels empowering to know that I can have input in a potentially featured article and not be at the mercy of submitting and hoping for the best.

Voting is also straightforward and takes little-to-no time to complete at all. Once you click on the “Vote Here” button, you’re directed to a Google Form.

Once it’s all filled out, hit submit, and voilà!

I am sure some writers will vote for their own work, and I 100% get it. However, in the spirit of #writerslift and being a member of the #writingcommunity I’d like to think that there will be more votes for others’ work instead of themselves.

I’ve read some great pieces on Simily so far. In fact, I cast my vote for this one by Casey Lawrence. He told a great story of an unexpected friendship in the most uncomfortable of circumstances with the humor spot on!
