Silver Wings
4th July 2020 Haiku/Tanka prompt “shine ”.
Shining silver wings Now fill the skies of our world Humanity joined
PROMPT: Write a haiku or tanka using the prompt word “shine” (or a derivative).
Air travel is something we all tend to take for granted, nowadays. But, I still get filled with awe when I watch a huge airliner lift off into the sky. Aviation really is a modern miracle!
Right now, I’m quite aviation-focused because I just started a new full-time job at the wonderful Qantas Founders Museum, in Longreach QLD, Australia.
Qantas, one of the world’s top airlines, began life right here in outback Queensland. “Qantas” is an acronym derived from the original name, “Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services”.
Via exhibits, videos, interactive displays, and guided tours, the museum tells the story of the early days of Qantas and aviation in general. It’s well worth a visit if you are ever out this way.
NOTE: My apologies for not putting up any new prompts over the last week or so. As noted above, I’ve just started a new job, and I have not had time to write any haiku prompts until today.
About Haiku and Tanka
A haiku is a form of Japanese poetry totalling 17 syllables (in the English language) which are usually arranged in three lines of 5, 7, 5 syllables.
It often references the natural world and more modern forms of haiku can also reference human nature.
A tanka is composed of 31 syllables in five lines (5, 7, 5, 7, 7).
It can be written in a series addressing the same subject matter.
