Silence Stillness Spaciousness
A Meditation

Silence permeates the conscious mind like being deep into a winter night calm, peaceful, silent
Stillness permeates the body-mind like a pillar of stone or a mighty oak strong, stable, still
Spaciousness permeates the field mind like an infinite horizon, a wide-open field of possibility full, sweeping, spacious
Silence, Stillness, Spaciousness
This poem flows out of a meditation I use focusing on these three words — Silence, Stillness, Spaciousness — that ground the three aspects of mind (conscious, subconscious, field mind) in order to focus our energies more effectively into living life well. Three is a special mathematical number that in many ways serves to create the strongest shape, the triangle, which is used to support nature’s heavy loads (more on this in a later post).
I played with these three words in a previous poem, a Triptych Haiku, that attempted to capture the subtle essence of these words. Here, the imagery is more direct but I hope equally compelling. You can actually record this and use it as a meditation. If doing so, at the end of each stanza repeat the key word 3 more times slowly and at the very end repeat “silence, stillness, spaciousness” three times.
