Signs You Are Too Focused on Making a Living That You Actually Forget to Live
If you’re like many individuals in the rat race, you might find yourself caught in the relentless pursuit of making a living. The constant grind, the never-ending to-do lists, and the pressure to succeed can consume your life, leaving little room for genuine living.
In the midst of this hustle, it’s easy to forget the essence of life itself. Let’s take a look at some signs that indicate you might be so focused on making a living that you actually forget to live.
1. The Constant Overthinking Loop
Do you find yourself trapped in a loop of overthinking, replaying past events, and dwelling on decisions? This mental gymnastics can be a sign that you’re overly focused on the intricacies of making a living.
You may not realize the impact of overthinking on their life, you may need a break from this mental treadmill. The toll of overthinking is not just mental; it can manifest physically, contributing to fatigue, tension, and overall diminished well-being.

Creative hobbies, can be a powerful antidote to anxiety. If you’re missing these outlets in your life, it might be a sign that you’re too engrossed in the pursuit of success.
Hobbies often induce a flow state, a state of deep immersion where time seems to slip away. If you constantly feel rushed and rarely experience this state of flow, it could be a sign that you’re not fully present in your activities.
Engaging in activities that keep your hands and mind busy not only distracts you from anxious thoughts but also provides a therapeutic release while helping you live in the present.

When was the last time you expressed yourself freely…in any form? If you’re solely focused on making a living, you might be neglecting your need for self-expression.
Free self-expression acts as a form of free therapy, allowing you to articulate your thoughts, experiences, and emotions. If your mind feels cluttered and you haven’t found a way to declutter it, it could be time to explore some outlets. What do you enjoy doing that makes you feel really free?
For me, it’s dancing and grilling! So I find and also create a lot of opportunities for these activities to happen. I go to friend’s parties, music events, and church and also invite friends over for music, dance, games, grilling etc.
4. Lack of a Sense of Accomplishment
Making a living is undoubtedly important, but if that’s the sole focus, you might be missing out on the joy of accomplishment beyond professional success.
Practising contentment provides a sense of achievement that goes beyond the confines of your job. Contentment equals happiness, and finding fulfillment in various aspects of life contributes to a more balanced well-being.
What this does to you is discourage you from constantly going off to chase the next big thing that will possibly give you fulfillment. The truth is that you may never find it.
Have you noticed that the richest people in the world still work really hard? They are usually still chasing the next big business deal or acquisition.
The earlier you realise that it is an insatiable craving, the sooner you will live a fulfilled life.
