Signs Tell The Story
They tend to display the current reality of the cause…

It’s interesting to follow the longevity of signs and flags around town that support various causes.
Signs come and go. Sometimes they show up on your property unexpectedly. During a recent election cycle an apparently undisciplined campaign worker thought my yard was a good spot for the candidate’s sign.

The problem was, they failed to ask permission to place it there.
It disappeared quickly.
BLM was a big deal around this area for a while. Signs, banners, and flags were everywhere. They are hard to find at the moment.
This is one of the last one or two that exist around here. No longer prominently displayed out in the front yard, it is tacked to the side of the house between a planter and a bush. Also behind where the owner parks their car.
Somewhat of an afterthought?

Speaking of flags, the one below seems to sum up the status of a lot of these causes.

Bright, bold, new flags of all sizes and shapes flowing proudly in the breeze. But then, something happens. A bright idea gone bad?
Whatever the cause that was being supported seems to fizzle out, and then the signs disappear. The banners get blown off the side of buildings. The flags come down or are ignored like the one above.
Just another afterthought?

The cause this flag represents has been pretty durable. It’s been around for a while and it’s likely to stick around for a while longer.
Looking around the neighborhood there seems to be consistently many more of these than any other. All proudly and prominently displayed.

This cause has not fizzled out or become an afterthought.
