Signs In The Night Sky
B.U.Hub Publication Contest, Universe-Love-Soul
Let me share with you something spectacular that happened to me last night. Something I saw with my own eyes.
But the scene must be set for you as well before I reveal it all.
So picture this. It’s been a stifling hot day and I’m unwinding from a long week at work. It’s a Thursday evening and tomorrow is a public holiday, so there is an air of relaxation in the neighbourhood.
After watching a movie, I decide to unwind with a 30 minute Yin yoga before bed. I like how it clears my mind and calms me into a deep, refreshing sleep.
I glance out the window as I am finishing my poses and notice the beautiful moon. She looks glowing like a full fluorescent ball in the dark night sky and beckons me to retreat to my patio and relax a few minutes in the cooler bay breeze.
With the darkness only interrupted by the fairy light strung on top of my bamboo fence and a few lit windows on some of the neighbouring buildings, I feel a sense of calm as I watch the vastness of the sky. The distant rumbles of planes landing and taking off from Sydney airport appear louder in the evening’s stillness.
Clouds scatter thinly across the sky and tiptoe past the moon, making her come and go like she is playing a game of peek-a-boo with the earth.
I love watching the moon. There is something there, a pull, something magical about the round ball of glowing white. I wonder who else in this very moment somewhere else is watching that same moon, somehow connecting us all.
The moon is strong enough to affect the gravitational pull on our earth and causing our regular high and low tides. Our bodies are up to 60% water, so it’s no wonder we may also feel a pull from the moon, generating a human high and low tides. Just my thought.
The sight of the moon always makes me want me to capture it. I’m a hobbyist photographer and the challenge to get a good moon shot is never ending. With my iPhone close by, I attempt a few times. Capturing it exactly like I see it with my eyes is always challenging. Full and round, the hint of darker patterns across her face and a luminous glow reflecting far across the sky. The sight makes me feel humble and small in our expansive universe.
I sit for a few more minutes breathing in the fresh air before scrolling through the photos I just snapped. Many are useless and disappointing, but the ones taken with night-mode capture my interest. I zoom in on the moon to check its clarity.
That’s when I see it!
A beautiful huge heart shape right next to the moon. It looks almost like the moon is giving me this heart as a present. My own heart swells with gratitude.

A sign?
Absolutely. I see it as a sign that love will fill my future even more than I have now. From the size of the heart, my life will be over brimming with love.
I smile, stand up and go to bed with a peace in my heart and a quiet excitement about my tomorrows.
Sometimes all it takes is a small sign. We just have to be open to seeing them and believing in them. Next time it’s a full moon, look up and admire her beauty. She may give you a sign too.
Thank you for reading till the end.
