Showing Me the True Meaning

With joy and warmth in their hearts

Just because the other kids said to me, with caring little faces and loving in their hearts.

Everyone gets a present at Christmas you know. That’s just the way it’s worked for hundreds of years, at least as far as we know.

We set off as a group to the shopping centre, leaving our games of discovery behind for a time. Spin the Bottle and Doctor would wait until we returned.

It had never occurred to me before why December was always this way. Quite an idyllic adventure, skipping threw the mall and browsing the colourful window displays.

So, I followed happily along with my teenage friends, gazing at adults and children alike. The latter danced with excited glee, the former did their best to ignore the fatigue.

Having never witnessed such activity before, I did not know what to make of the goings-on. After all, this sort of pilgrimage was not in my routine.

Knowing then what I’ve come to understand now would have helped me way back then.

If only they had told me so many years ago, the most valued lesson of all.

Donning mistletoe about myself with a cup full of Christmas cheer, would bring to my lips the action that I lacked.

Snog away with joy. Hugs and kisses to all, and to all a warm and cosy holiday.

With apologies to all the real poets on Medium, this is my feeble response to Tree Langdon and her Acrostic Poem Challenge.

Merry Chrismas Everyone!!!
