Summary

The author expresses skepticism about the sincerity of self-proclaimed anti-capitalists, questioning their refusal to disclose personal wealth while demanding financial transparency and redistribution from others.

Abstract

The article critiques individuals who identify as anti-capitalists yet are reluctant to reveal their own financial status while publicly condemning the wealth of others, such as celebrities and billionaires. The author points out the hypocrisy in this stance, particularly in light of incidents where prominent anti-capitalist figures have been caught in discrepancies between their stated beliefs and their personal acquisitions, such as the case with Patrisse Cullors, co-founder of Black Lives Matter. The piece suggests that true commitment to anti-capitalist principles should involve personal accountability and action within one's community rather than merely vocal criticism of the wealthy.

Opinions

  • The author understands the premise of anti-capitalism but questions the authenticity of those who advocate for wealth redistribution without practicing financial transparency themselves.
  • There is a call for anti-capitalists to make their incomes public, especially since they demand the same of others.
  • The author believes that the lack of financial disclosure among anti-capitalists undermines their credibility, as evidenced by the example of Patrisse Cullors' undisclosed wealth accumulation.
  • The piece argues that activists should lead by example and contribute to their communities rather than just criticizing the wealthy.
  • It is suggested that constant vocal criticism of others' wealth without personal action is ineffective and hypocritical.
  • The author advocates for choosing personal battles wisely and focusing on individual achievements and contributions rather than fixating on the wealth of others.

Show Us Your Bank Account if You’re Such a Devout Anti-Capitalist

But you won’t do that, right?

I don’t get the anti-capitalists sometimes.

I understand their underlying premises. There shouldn’t be any billionaires in the world. America has a huge wealth inequality gap. Fuck Jeff Bezos. All millionaires and billionaires need to redistribute their wealth so regular people don’t need to break their backs to make a decent income.

The true confusion comes when I see anti-capitalists commanding billionaires and millionaires to redistribute their wealth like they have some sort of mind control over rich people.

I understand there should be a universal basic income, but I just get this uneasy gut feeling that most “anti-capitalists” are full of bullshit.

These are the same people who refuse to tell others what their income is. Yet, they’ll be the first ones condemning someone else like Beyonce about her income. That’s weird.

Since the conversation around income is becoming less taboo, anti-capitalists should make their incomes public too if they’re really about that life.

Here’s why.

If the co-founder of Black Lives Matter lied about her income, we need a way to hold everyone accountable.

Shortly before the Derek Chauvin verdict, Patrisse Cullors (the co-founder of the Black Lives Matter organization) was under investigation concerning her income. She bought four luxury homes in a short time period and one is in the Caribbean.

The craziest thing is that she claimed to be a Marxist or anti-capitalist.

If we have people that are in these organizations lying about their income and claiming to be anti-capitalist…that’s a hot mess. It shows that anyone can come out of the woodwork and say “I’m an anti-capitalist!” just for the clout and attention. But no one actually believes in anti-capitalism.

Another example of this situation on a smaller scale is this YouTuber I follow. He claims to be such a devout anti-capitalist, but you can tell he only adopted this language from his grassroots friends.

He posts a bunch of videos on his channel where he talks about this issue. He gets so heated the looks like he’s about to bust a nerve.

Yet, when he filmed a video with two of his grassroots friends about Patrisse, he wouldn’t even state his salary while one of his friends outright said he makes 40k a year. That’s what I’m talking about. Stop talking. Show us how much you make.

I respected his friend a ton more when he disclosed his income.

If they’re going to be nosy, we can too.

I doubt these anti-capitalists would even say a word about Jeff Bezos if he wasn’t famous.

A lot of celebrity income is posted online so it’s public information. I hate Jeff too, but I’m not going to condemn him and command him to redistribute his wealth when I know he doesn’t give a shit. It’s a waste of time.

So let me get this straight, anti-capitalists can find out how much income these people have online, yet when other people call their bluff and ask them their income, they can keep it hush?

Something isn’t right in the buttermilk.

I’m not saying all anti-capitalists think this way. I just think if you’re that comfortable in your beliefs around this issue, why do you have to bring it up every chance you get?

As Lil Wayne always said:

“Real G’s move in silence like lasagna.”

Most of these billionaires and millionaires didn’t work hard for their money and I’m okay with that.

You need to choose your own battles.

I don’t focus on someone else’s income and sulk. I focus on myself. All I can do is achieve whatever greatness I’m destined to have whether it’s monetary or not. Even though I feel bad for the workers that were exploited for these people to get this wealth, I can only get so angry before I shut down.

A lot of activists can benefit from this.

Plus it means so much more to lead by example instead of your mouth. Stop roasting other people for their income and just show us what you’re doing in your community to alleviate this issue.

Final Thought

If you’re such an anti-capitalist, we need to see your income.

There have been so many sheisty “anti-capitalists” that we can’t just take your word for it. Especially if you can’t go one day without telling someone who doesn’t care about you to redistribute their wealth. There needs to be some accountability there.

Either tell us how much you make or…shhh….

That’s all.
