Tips and prompts to help you think outside the box

Hey again, writers! Jolie here. I’ve been writing prompts for y’all for about two months now (whoo!), and I’m shocked and surprised every day when I read all of the unique, thought-provoking responses. I started sharing these prompts to help Medium writers (and myself) get out of creative blocks and stretch their writing muscles. And to that point, I’d like to share some advice with you that I hope will help you this week and with future prompts:

Think Outside the Box!

The Write Here crew and I come up with new prompts for you every week, and we try to offer some thought-starters to help inspire you, but don’t think that you have to answer the prompts verbatim. We love to read your interpretations of the questions! Think bigger, deeper, and braver than what we’ve written below. The writing you all produce even helps inspire future prompts.

If you want more tips for expanding your creativity, be sure to register for our Summer Creator Workshop on coming up with ideas for your next story. Let’s get into these prompts!

THIS WEEK’S PROMPTS

Write about your talents.

What special skills do you possess that help you stand out in a crowd? Can you sing, play an instrument, pick up small objects with your toes? How did you discover you had this talent, and do you ever show it off? Show me what you got and tag “Writehere.”

What makes you feel jealous?

Does social media scrolling leave you feeling sick? Is there something you wish you could do or have? Are there people in your life who you love but also kind of hate? Write about your feelings of envy and how you overcome them. Tag “Writehere.”

What’s something you were wrong about?

Do you hold personal beliefs that you’re starting to reconsider? Are you someone who can admit when they’re wrong, or would you rather argue until you’re blue in the face? Let’s talk about self-correction and tag “Writehere.”
