Shouldn’t We Have Some Sympathy For Amber Heard?
Even with all her flaws
I have to confess that I don’t recall ever watching a movie in which Amber Heard was an actress.
I had to google her name to find out which movies she played roles in. I found 2 TV shows, Criminal Minds, and The O.C.
It felt like a lie as these were interesting for me so much so that I remember the characters and the roles they played, but I don’t remember Amber Heard in any of them.
I had to quit watching the O.C when someone spoiled for me the part where Marissa Barton died.
I didn’t even stick around long enough to find out what happened to Summer, Seth, and the love between them. It says a lot since those 2 were my favorite characters in the show.
I’ve searched the depths of my mind to find out whether I remember any character that was played by Amber Heard but I don’t.
I recently heard that there were people signing petitions to get her kicked off the Aquaman Sequel and 2.3 million people agree. Aquaman is a big deal, I haven’t watched any of the Aquaman movies but I will watch them soon.
I don’t normally watch older movies if newer versions exist because the storyline is normally the same but with a better production quality in the newer releases so I guess if I followed the same behavior when watching Aquaman movies, I wouldn’t remember seeing her in that either if she gets removed.
But in no way does this mean that Amber Heard is an insignificant actress. I would even argue that she is way more significant if she can be known to non-fans like me without us remembering ever having watched her in any movie.
When it comes to Johnny Depp however, I have one reason why I have watched the Pirates of the Caribbean more than enough times. These movies were true works of art as far as am concerned.
Every character felt like they suited the roles. It's one of those movies you watch and forget that you are just watching a movie. I found myself rooting for my favorite characters every time I watched the movies even when I knew what the outcomes were going to be.
But by far the only character who kept me coming back to watch the Pirates of the Caribbean multiple times was Jack Sparrow. Captain!!! Captain Jack Sparrow.
Ask me to mention just one other movie that Johnny Depp is in and I will give you nothing.
But that is the thing. All it takes is one impression.
When it comes to taking presence in people’s minds, all it requires is one event that anchors you in their minds.
I can’t tell you for sure what initially made me know who Amber Heard was, it definitely wasn’t her movies though but I now have a less than ideal impression of her.
My impressions of Johnny Depp are heavily influenced by my impressions of Captain Jack Sparrow. In many ways, Johnny Depp behaves the same way as the character he played.
All court witnesses and accounts suggest that he is a likable person and I believe it. I’ve looked for even the slightest evidence to consider that maybe he is not that likable but if it is there, I am still blinded by the impression that he holds on my mind.
Of course, I’ve heard those audio recordings where he calls Amber Heard derogatory names and sort of dismissed it as justified hostility since Amber has dished out her own hostility towards him.
I keep injecting my opinions into the case as if they are of any importance lol, but this is not meant for me to write about how I feel.
It is meant to bring to the realization that my feelings are shared by at least 2.3 million other people to varying degrees.
I watch as people are tearing this woman down from all points of view and the reasons that I can think of are mainly two.
- She is a horrible person
- Celebrity power imbalance
I have listened to the audio recordings that are mostly about her demanding something from Johnny Depp. She seems to have a personality disorder, but she also seems to just be trying to get her feelings met.
I don’t know whether it makes her a horrible person if she struggles with mental health issues.
But the celebrity power imbalance that is, in this case, is what is reflected in the earlier paragraphs of this article.
We all know what's been said about the toxicity in this relationship, we know how crowds will support Johnny and boo Amber, but none of us will know the truth for sure except those that are directly involved.
And I am not saying that Amber is a good person or that Johnny is not who he seems to be. I can only think that they are right where they are supposed to be.
But I have to admit that watching Amber get all this hate publicly while she says nothing is really a painful thing to witness. I cannot even begin to imagine how she is dealing with all of it.
If she suffers from mental issues, is this treatment good for her mental health?
I’m thinking that there will be a part of the hearing where Amber gets to talk but can’t we get to it already?
I am not following every part of the case but I have searched for the videos where she at least gets to the witness stand and says something but I haven’t yet found any.
All I see are cameras focused on her scared (or manipulatively scared) face as sits in silence. I have seen some parts where she was fighting back laughter, at least that counts,… I guess.
I didn’t want to write this article until I hear her side of the story, but there is no denying, that the evidence against her is really damning. I don’t know if she can ever come out of this.
If she is acting all innocent to manipulate us all into sympathy as people say she is, it's working, and as for me, I guess I am watching her act for the first time after all.
