Freedom versus productivity

I’ve spent several years writing fantasy fiction, and had a lot of fun doing it. Often, I’ve been led by my own passions, for example when I wrote Sparta Online, a LitRPG story set in ancient Greece.

It’s motivating to have a bit of freedom. In fact, autonomy is one of the key elements of motivation.

However, at some point you need to put new ideas aside, and get something finished. You don’t want to be a writer who never completes anything!

This leads to a dilemma: freedom to explore vs. productivity.

I think that a push to finish your work will ultimately prove highly satisfying— as long as your initial idea was something that you are truly passionate about.
