Should I Start Writing More Film Reviews?

All my recent curated stories are all film reviews.

I still miss going to the cinema, but I don't know when I would have the courage to step inside a movie house filled with people. It is just me, and I hope to overcome the fear someday.

Movies are made to be watched on the big screen. Therefore, the experience of a movie is a collective experience.

And have you ever wondered why you feel pumped up watching a movie with your friend or when you notice the person beside you having the same reaction as you have while you watch a movie?

For now, many of us have become used to watching films on our small screen, on our smart TV, and for many, we have learned to watch movies alone.

Film review

I noticed something with my stats, the last three stories that have been curated are all film reviews. If you wonder what it means to be curated, I wrote a story a long time ago about curation. I hope you can read it here.

I love watching movies.

But ever since I started to go full-time writing, I didn't find the time to watch movies, and I miss doing it. While reading is important for us writers, there is something that film does with our imagination. It could be a visual stimulation that can also help us write stories from the figments of our imagination.

A good movie review doesn't reveal much, which I have to learn if I want to do more film reviews.

The only drawback I could think of if I continue writing film reviews is that it takes away the joy of watching a movie without bothering with the smallest detail because, for me, a good movie review will tell the nuances of the film in words.

But finding out that I have three curated film reviews means that I'm doing something right and that there could be a growing audience for movie reviews.

A few days ago, I watched A Quiet Place and its sequel movie A Quiet Place Part Two, and I submitted my film review to ILLUMINATION, one of the publications where new writers are always welcome.

I enjoyed watching both movies. The only thing missing from experience is that I know it could have felt scarier watching the film in a cinema filled with people screaming just like me when I was watching the movies on my small screen alone.

The lesson I have learned from doing a film review

The year is only beginning, and I know for anyone who writes regularly, we feel that there are days when we have nothing else to write, but that is a lesson I learned as I write film reviews.

We can always try something new. We would be surprised that we will always find new ways to express our thoughts in genres or niches that we never thought we could write about in our writing journey.

The list is endless, and so are the possibilities. We can explore new ideas, new topics, and even experiment in our delivery.

The more we open up, the more we will have self-discovery.

It can also mean finding your true calling or finding a new audience, some of which can be underserved, a community waiting to find a unique voice, a new writer they can identify with.

It is what the new year is bringing into my life, a new beginning.
