Should I Find a Niche on Medium?

Or should I be the niche

When I joined Medium almost two months ago, I wanted to learn all I could and read everything I could find. Many of these articles strongly suggested finding a niche, which I considered.

But something felt off. It seemed restrictive, as if part of my body would be cut off. What about the rest of my thoughts and ideas?

I interpreted this tactic as if I would be baking only apple pie, not custard pie, shepherd’s pie, or any other kind of pie.

Wouldn’t that be boring?

Limiting myself to a niche felt like I’d be sending part of myself far away, never to return, waving goodbye with a touch of regret.

So, I decided not to do it and came up with this idea instead.

I’m going to be my own niche and bake all kinds of pies, depending on my ideas at the moment. I might put in extra sugar or leave it out altogether. I might share the whole pie or offer you selected pieces one at a time.

Doesn’t that sound more interesting?

I plan to write about my supernatural experiences, my dreams, and visions that have come true, my miserable marriages, lessons learned from the narcissists in my life, my abusive past, living off-grid, being an empath, my love for animals, living in nature, and so much more.

How many varieties of pies is that?

I want the reader to experience different tastes, textures, and whether those pies are hot or cold. Does each bite melt in your mouth, making you crave more? Are they served with ice cream, or whipped cream, urging you to grab a fork and devour the whole thing at once?

My articles will be as diverse as I am as a person. I want to take that coloring book where you were supposed to color between the lines as a kid and toss the darn book out.

I’ll soon begin my third month of being a member on Medium and I can only imagine the freedom of creativity that lies ahead. My niche is already developing as I write what comes to mind and my genuine virtual presence comes to life.

I hope readers enjoy my stories as much as I enjoy writing them. I hope each variety of topic melds into the concept of me as the niche and offers you a wide variety of tastes.

But here’s the best part. By sharing myself with the world, you can tell me which kind of pie you prefer through your comments.

Should I bake one longer? Cut them up into smaller pieces? Add more apples? Or are they fine the way they are?

Maybe I’ll ditch the pie and make pizza, or serve melted ice cream, my favorite. But what I can promise you is that my topics will be authentic and come from personal experiences.

And if I can inspire, enlighten or entertain you, my motivation for writing them will be even more rewarding.
