Should I Elect a Corrupt Candidate for President?

Corruption Does Not Matter in Democratic Elections

Shocking indeed! The answer to the question “does corruption matter in a Democracy?” is a resounding “No”. It is the American electors who must decide whether corruption matters to them come 3 November’s US Presidential Election Day.

The October surprise in the 2020 US Presidential Election cycle came in the form of emails from a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden, son of Presidential Candidate Joe Biden, the former Vice President under President Obama (2008–2016). That the laptop belonged to Hunter is evidenced by the fact that his lawyer had asked for its return. The emails have since been collaborated personally by a key recipient of some of the emails. The US Intelligence Community and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) had also confirmed their authenticity and that they were not part of any Russian or foreign disinformation efforts. The FBI was in fact in quiet possession of these emails as early as November 2019, when some of the emails were also exculpatory, pertinent and relevant to the failed impeachment of President Donald Trump.

These new emails constituted hard evidence of the Biden family corruption, and confirmed the details contained in the 2018 book “Secret Empires.” The emails further confirmed that Presidential Candidate Joe Biden had long misled Americans and the world about his involvement with his family’s foreign business entanglements while he served as President Obama’s Vice President. They suggested that, despite Joe Biden’s insistence that he knew nothing about his family’s business deals, he was well aware of his son Hunter Biden’s business ventures in China, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and elsewhere.

At considerable personal risk, a former Biden family business partner Tony Bobulinski have also come forward with tens of thousands of primary-source documents — internal corporate records, emails, and text messages — detailing years of business dealings that centered on trading on the Biden name.

The authenticated emails described a corrupt Biden Family empire centred on selling access to and influence by Joe Biden when and after he was President Obama’s Vice President (2008–2016). Much have already been written concerning favouritism in governmental contracts awards and influence peddling during Joe Biden’s 47 years as a US Senator and Vice President.

Of utmost significance is the fact that the latest emails, totalling 30,000, have confirmed the existence of corrupt Biden Family enterprises with Joe Biden participating actively at the center of the Family Business. A key follow-up question is whether President Obama knew about this and when did he know it? Is that why he dissuaded Joe Biden from running for the Presidency in 2016?

Among many examples of his active involvement was one where Joe Biden publicly bragged about how he blackmailed the Ukrainian Government to fire a Prosecutor who was leading a wide-ranging corruption probe into the natural gas firm Burisma Holdings that employed his son, Hunter, as a Board member. According to Joe Biden openly on TV, he told the Ukrainians that the promised US aid of US$1B would be withheld if the Prosecutor were not fired within 6 hours, and indeed he was. The emails further confirmed that Joe Biden’s visit to the Ukraine and his interference in the local legal process came a few weeks after his meeting in the White House with a senior Burisma Executive, where presumably the matter was discussed.

Remember 2016?

At that time, the FBI was also investigating then Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton family’s Clinton Foundation and allegations of her “pay-for-play” quid pro quo access to power players while as US Secretary of State from 2009–2013. Foreign governments donated millions to Clinton Foundation in contravention with US laws. In one instance, a Middle-Eastern country donated $1 million ostensibly to the Foundation for Bill Clinton’s birthday for a political favour. Hillary was alleged to have used her official position as Secretary of State to grant favours to major Clinton Foundation donors in contravention to US laws. More than 55% of her non-governmental visitors and meetings were Clinton Foundation donors. Leaked emails from Hillary’s illegal private server also provided confirming evidence of the unlawful collusion between her State Department and the Clinton Foundation.

Strangely, neither Hillary nor anyone was ever prosecuted for any of the revealed criminal acts. The Clinton Foundation was abruptly closed when Hillary lost the elections to Donald Trump. The Foundation was reported to have received more than US$450million during its existence, and has more than US$400million when it folded.

Democracy is synonymous with the rule of law according to the principle that it shall be applied without fear or favour equally on every person. No one is above the law. Without a system of laws, legal procedures and fearless judges, democracy would not survive. If President Trump won re-election on 3 November 2020, he would have to decide with his Attorney General as to whether to proceed with the prosecution of Joe Biden and/or members of his family and associated persons/parties involved in their alleged corrupt and illegal activities.

The rule of law for a strong Democracy can only be restored with fearless leadership initiatives to demonstrate that “no one is above the law”.

Have the US media learnt nothing from the 2016 US election? None of the major news media follow-up on the New York Post’s expose of Hunter Biden emails. Even the powerful Washington Post, winner of 47 Pulitzer Prizes and famous for its expose on President Nixon’s Watergate Scandal expose and coverage, as well as other highly reputable investigative journalism media did not dare or want to expose or unpack the Hunter emails, in the same manner in 2016 when it too failed to cover Hillary’s historical and personal ineligibility for the highest office of the land.

In this 2020 US Presidential cycle, the US media again failed miserably to play its 4th estate socially responsible role as the watchdog of a democratic society and the defender of the citizenry’s democratic rights which include disseminating the naked and undiluted facts and information to empower informed opinion in the exercise of electoral choice.

Little wonder that since 2016, the public trust in the media has lost its bearing as the major media leaders adopt a “we-know-better” role to manipulate public opinion to anchor its own interests to the status quo web of political and power economic interests against the incumbent President Trump. The blatant censorship by Twitter and FaceBook of the Hunter story in the New York Post, the oldest US newspaper, clearly warned of the dangerous influence that “Big Tech” has on our cherished freedom to knowledge and information. Even the New York Post’s Twitter account was shut down for daring to share its print story, which led to a steep selloff of Twitter shares and plunging Twitter share price!

In not pursuing their own investigations into the Hunter emails, and asked Presidential Candidate Joe Biden about his role as described therein, the major US media increasingly pollute and corrupt the public sphere entrusted to them. The public sphere of rational and reasoned conversations became more dirtied and clouded by one-sided fake and non-news, mostly fabricated, about President Trump.

Neither Joe Biden nor his Campaign have denied the allegations of his corruption detailed in the emails or that the contents are false and untrue.

Of direct and serious national security implications material and relevant to the American electorate is the Biden family’s connections with China. It is noteworthy that Joe Biden has never said anything negative about China during his Campaign, whether with regard to the coronavirus, unfair trade deals, human rights or intellectual property laws. Shortly after accompanying his father on a visit to China in December 2013, Hunter received from a major Chinese state-owned bank US$1.5B purportedly as investments into a US company which he is a partner. The American electorate should know “to what extent is the Biden Family beholden to the Chinese?”. A responsible and professional US Media would have investigated and provided the answers before the 2020 US election.

The Stake is never Higher in the 2020 US Presidential Election.

It goes beyond the differing policies of the Candidates. Its impact is much more than banning fracking if Biden won. Or whether a Biden victory would plunge the US into a national shutdown to imperil and stall its current super-V economic recovery. It is not even about the socialist agenda promoted by Biden’s advisors Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. On 3 November 2020, the American electorate must decide whether the integrity, sovereignty and independence of the USA is for sale, nothing less.

A President Joe Biden would mean a known corrupt President beholden to China and Russia (since his family have already received US$millions from these and other countries) thereby weakening and limiting his decision options to promote American strategic international interests. The Biden Family would also be further emboldened and empowered to mine his Presidency corruptly and more vigorously for greater personal financial gains and benefits.

Democracy will not prevent the election of a corrupt Presidential Candidate; it is up to the nearly 150-million American electorate to weigh and choose the more palatable outcome of their choice, and to be prepared to live with the consequences of their vote.
