There may not exactly be ways to find shortcuts to health, but there are hacks, or strategies, that you can follow to help find and maintain health. For instance, I have been a big fan of Daily Harvest (use referral code RE-MLVLL2L and we both get $25 off). Daily Harvest is a prepared food delivery service best known for their smoothies, but they also make soups, flatbreads, ice cream, and “bites” (akin to the frozen dough) that are all vegan. Their smoothies and other offerings all help make it just a little bit easier for me to eat healthy, nutritious, plant-based food and nourish myself without the hassle. And a big hack to health, I have found, is simply to have more healthy food around and less unhealthy food around. If you have junk and processed foods at home, you are more likely to eat them; the secret is, the converse also works, and having readily available, pre-prepped healthy food is definitely a hack to helping to find and maintain health.

Finding a way to incorporate exercise, or being active, into your daily life is also highly important. If, like me, going to the gym is currently not feasible for you (or you know you won’t get your butt there), the secret is finding ways to incorporate physical activity into your daily life in such a way that it doesn’t feel like work. Being physically active stimulates your brain and your body, and it is key to well-being. “Use it or lose it” is true about both the brain and the body. I personally enjoy being physically active through walking, biking, dance parties (usually alone or with my daughter in the house these days), stretching, and doing yoga. Make physical exercise *fun* and get into the habit of doing lunges or stretches along the day. Approach exercise as play, stay grounded in your body, and your body will thank you for it.

Finally, mindset is pivotal. I wrote a short-read memoir, Worthy: Overcoming Trauma, Healing, and Finding Gratitude and Sacred Medicines to discuss my own journey in overcoming a self-destructive mindset and finding self-transformation that was key for my healing and transformation. Raising your awareness and actively working to find ways to improve your situation and/or your perspective on the situation can make all the difference in the world.

My awakening has helped me to lead a purpose-driven life, including my current efforts of pursuing my writing and becoming certified as a health coach. Interested in what health coaching entails (as a possible career, side hustle, or simply as a way to find education and empowerment for your health? Try a sample class at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. A key takeaway from this coaching program for me has been that life is all about balance; to find and maintain health, you need to make sure not only your nutritional needs are being met, but also your physical, spiritual, social, and romantic needs. Self-care starts with the self. As a health coach, I can help you become empowered to work toward your goals; and remember, a health coach or healing practitioner does not heal you, but rather helps you to heal yourself.
