Summary

The web content is a reflective piece that uses the act of squeezing an orange for juice as a metaphor for life and selflessness.

Abstract

The article titled "Short of a miracle" is a poetic contemplation on the miraculous nature of simple acts, such as extracting juice from an orange. The author, Pablo Pereyra, draws a parallel between the orange's generosity in providing its juice to quench thirst and the human desire to nurture and give of oneself. The poem suggests that, like the orange, one's purpose may be to enrich others' lives, even if it means being consumed in the process. The piece concludes with a humble acknowledgment that such profound thoughts were inspired by the simple act of interacting with an orange.

Short of a miracle

A Poem

Squeezed. Photo by Pablo Pereyra (2020)

As I squeeze the fruit and its juice yields, I cannot stop to feel that this is nothing short of a miracle. This perfect fruit, giving, and all I can hope for, is to be an orange like you, to bring out the flavor, to quench a thirsty person, To disappear in your body, while becoming your body, Nurturing, Bringing life. All this, inspired by an orange.
