There is apparently a worldwide shortage of shipping containers. It’s not that there aren’t enough of them. They’re just not where they need to be.

Cheap goods from China suddenly have exorbitant added fees to pay for premium shipping container service. Empty lots around major US ports are filled with shipping containers unloaded from boats, and unable to be transported to where they need to go.

The major train lines suspended sending shipping containers to the Chicago rail yards for a week until they could get the containers that were already there sent out.

According to this article, the problem is only getting worse.

This was brought home by the international shipper telling us that they no longer send trucks with containers to pick up shipments. We have to get our shipment to Florida on our own.
