Shining The Spotlight On A Rising Star

Illuminating one of our great writers.

Ok, so here I am sat at my desk at home, trying to rest my leg after I tore a tendon and getting stuck into some editing. It’s a task which is a labour of love. I love good writers and even better writing.

In the short time I have been elevated to this position I have come across a wide diversity of writers, and that is one of the big attractions. I get to see lots of great work, especially now Illumination is attracting some of the best. Of course, I also get to meet quiet a few just setting off on their writer’s journey, and I do my best to help and encourage them.

Then I get to read something which makes it abundantly clear, this guy needs no help from me. In fact if anything, perhaps I need his help. A case in point, Robert Trakofler. As soon as I read his poem 'Motion' I just sat back and wished I’d written it. Then today I got to read a writer whose name I have seen but not had chance to read, until today.

Remington Write reminds me so much of the wonderful years I spent studying American Literature at university. That voice of America is just so darn enticing, you can’t help but fall in love with it. From Walt Whitman and Mark Twain right through to whoever you care to mention amongst the greats. How about JD Salinger or Jack London or…jeez there are so many. And Remington has what it takes to belong up there with them. Remington has that voice of a free spirit roaming the plains, shooting from the hip along the way at a cactus plant, just because it's cool, and hell, why not.

Now I have to confess I have passed barely a comment or two with Remington after I edited his latest piece. I know nothing of who that person is. But I like to think I recognise writing talent when I see it.

I did think to ask Remington for some personal background, but then I did a Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye and decided to act a bit cagey about that. You see it really doesn’t matter who or what or where from Remington Write is. What matters is Remington has such a hip, easy going style. Did I mention Remington's cool factor?

Think Brando in his early films, think Fonz, the maestro of cool, think Cool Hand Luke, think anybody you like who is cool, and right there you got yourself one of the coolest of writers I have come across in many a long time.

Remington doesn't so much write as sing and dance the way through an article. And you, dear reader, can dance along with the writer just by setting your eyes on the page.

You know what? Stop what you are doing right now and go and get yourself a Remington. Yeah, right, even the goddam name oozes cool, like a top notch beer right out of the cooler. I hope Remington goes all the way, certainly got what it takes. The rest is up to the writer.
