Shine On You Crazy Crystal
The memories that came to me drawing this crystal

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun. — Pink Floyd
My brain travelled above and beyond
The image for my stories is something I start to worry about after the first paragraph. For some, it would be the last thing to think about. Hence the repetitive or bad choice of images you see in some stories.
This time it’s the opposite. I drew and painted this crystal. During the hour of drawing this, many things came to my mind. Mostly memories and mental images of things associated with this crystal.
I enjoyed this experience, especially that some of my friends and my second eldest have joined me in this challenge. My cats and toddler had fun too dipping their paws (my toddler is a cute kitten) in my palette.
This piece took me to my mother’s fireplace mantle, where she had a few crystals. Amethyst was one of them. Since we were not allowed to touch the crystals, or as we called them “space rocks”, I studied the Amethyst and it stayed with me all those years. She also had a pair of earrings with them. Bless her.
It took me to a conversation I had with my father on my eighth birthday. He gave me his old guitar as a gift. I had no interest in guitars but since my parents were divorced it meant the world to me.
I asked him if I could play Madonna songs on it — she was big in the ’80s. He told me there were better people out there and introduced me to Pink Floyd and Deep Purple. When I asked him what his favourite song is, he said it was “Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Of course, my mother’s crystals from “space” were also diamonds.
Then lastly, in Superman The Movie (1978), Marlon Brandon’s face creeping out of a bunch of Selenite crystals to speak to Kal-El — Superman’s real name.
Which reminded me of Nicholas Cage. He named his kid Kal-El. To each their own, but I’m wondering how his kid feels about it. Also, I think he needs to stop acting.
Enough of me.
Here’s my child’s art and writing. Her writing is not different from mine, if not better. I’ll leave you all to it.

Her story;
“I am sitting by the sea, for I am indeed bored. Yes, I am bored. I was given strict rules by my Nanna who had told me to sit here because she needed to go to a lake TEN MILES AWAY TO MAKE A BOWL OF NOODLES. I was sitting quietly until I heard a small splash. I looked around. There was nobody there on the sand except me. I started at the sea. Was there a fish in the water? I waited for a few minutes, and the tide started to rise. To make things worse, it started to rain. I took shelter in a cave nearby. I stared at the Rockpool because I saw a slight shimmer. Determined to catch a fish, I stuck my hand in the pool. I felt something scratch my skin. I put my hand back in the water, and, to my surprise, and probably yours, I scooped up what I always wanted. A tie-die mermaid’s Crystal.
A mermaid was swimming and swimming as if she was looking for something. Oh wait, she was looking for something. “Where is my Crystal y’all! I can’t find it!” She bobbed her head out of the water. To her shock, she found a child running away to a small hut.
We all have learned from this story that you should alway-NEVER leave your stuff in a rock-pool The end (unless you want to read it again)”
