Shifting Camera Angles to Evoke Different Emotions
It's essential to shift the camera angles to widen the experience for the viewer.
Not-so-exciting angle
Let's start with this not-so-exciting angle of this beautiful Asian wood relief carving as an example. Although it shows everything in the artwork, selecting a focal point takes a lot of work.
This artwork is filled with hundreds of elements with great details. Photographing it from different angles, including close-ups, will create a focal point and better display the intricacies and depth of each section of the story told within this artwork.
Shifting angle sample one
In this sample, I photographed the lower section of the relief, and this perspective changes the narrative of this storyline.
Shifting angle sample two
Pulling back and photographing the top part of the relief at eye level provides a different storyline narrative. This angle, again, shifts our perspective of the subject.
I photographed other angles, but these three are critical for this artwork.
Not-so-exciting angle
Here is another sample of an eye-level not so exciting photo of a vintage wooden box. Artistically, this image is pretty dull, but moving around the subject can help create more interest.

This slight angle change and different focal lengths create a different mood and experience.

For this last sample, let's start at an eye-level angle of this vintage radio.

Taking advantage of the subjects' unique qualities and photographing them helps expand the storyline and widens the experience for the viewer.
