Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Statues”

Shepherds Washed their Socks by Night.

While on St. Simons Island last week, we visited the Arther J. Moore Methodist Museum. What a fascinating place to visit.

As you enter, there are several paper mache statues in the entryway. We immediately stopped to admire them. The museum greeter said that they were created by Susan Duke Waters. She also said that there were humorous details included in the statues. For instance, the group of shepherds at the entrance that should be “watching their flocks by night” were actually “washing their socks by night.” Funny.

I remembered the original words of the Christmas carol:

While shepherds watch’d their flocks by night, All seated on the ground, The angel of the Lord came down, And glory shone around

I did some research later and discovered that several variations date back to the 1800s, including: “While shepherds washed their frocks by night” and “Wild Shepherds watch their flocks by night”.

There were other variations on other statues, but I’ll take this one statue at a time.
