TRUE CRIME
She Arranged for Her Husband To Be Murdered so He Faked His Own Death
Hollywood couldn't even make this up.
Divorcee Ramon Sosa of Huston, Texas, thought he had found genuine love when he met Mexican Lulu at a salsa club. They immediately connected and danced the night away. Lulu begun their relationship as the perfect partner, she appeared to adore Ramon, he said, “She treated me like a king while we were dating, She was a wonderful person.” Even his friends and family commented on how devoted she was to him. Little did he know, their relationship would end with him stripped to his underwear, lying in a cold grave, faking his own death.
How did it start?
Ramon owned a gym in Huston, which he and his family ran together. His wife led an active role in the business. She managed the books and worked as a personal trainer. Their gym was a success, and they had a comfortable life together. All seemed well.
The first seed of doubt was sown into Ramon’s mind came from Lulu’s mother. On their wedding day, she approached him for a hug. As they embraced, she whispered into his ear, “now she’s your trouble”. The comment confused Ramon, but he didn’t question it because he loved his new wife. After all, what trouble could this beautiful and caring woman bring to him?
Time reveals all truths, and Ramon’s story is no different. In the end Lulu proves her mother right.
The cracks showed a few years into the marriage. Lulu’s son was having trouble adjusting to his new father figure, and tensions were forming in the family home, but Lulu didn’t stand by her husband. She took the side of her defiant son and the relationship broke down. Despite still living in Ramon’s home, Lulu filed for divorce in 2015.
The gangster becomes the savior
Ramon had mentored an ex-gangster named Mundo, who had turned his life around and now spent most of his time at Ramon’s gym. Ramon would tell people, “Mundo is my third son.” This is how close the pair were.
Mundo was training in the gym, and he overheard a conversation between Lulu and her daughter. The daughter said to her mother, “There’s a person in the gym who has a family member in Mexico who will kill people for money”, Lulu replied, “We might use him.”
Mundo was aware of the nasty divorce between Lulu and his mentor, so he was immediately suspicious of the conversation. Being a street-wise guy, he saw the opportunity to protect his friend. He asked her if she was talking about Ramon and he explained to Lulu that he knew people who would kill Ramon for money. Lulu obviously did not recognize the loyalty between Mundo and her husband and believed that he would help her find a hitman to end his life.
Mundo immediately went to Ramon and explained what he had discovered. They went to the police, but they lacked enough evidence to arrest her.
Ramon plays the role of his own killer
Now the pair were working together on their own sting operation to gather enough evidence to arrest his wife. Mundo had the idea to meet with Lulu and record the conversations they had. After the meeting, he would bring the recordings back to Ramon and play with them to him. It horrified Ramon to hear the woman he had once loved talking about how she wanted him dead.
Mundo felt that the time had come to take this operation to the next level. He told Ramon that the two of them would now pretend to be fictitious hitmen named Pako and John Boy. They would use burner phones to talk with Lulu and confirm that she wanted to pay for Ramon’s murder.
The duo took all the evidence they had gathered to the police. They thought this would be enough to charge her; they were wrong. The police wanted more. First, the police went undercover and began meeting with her. Lulu had no idea the police officer wasn’t her hitman, Pako, but this wasn’t enough.
They didn’t want to risk the case going to trial and for Lulu to be found not guilty. The police needed them to make Lulu really believe that she has paid for Ramon’s death. They used YouTube videos to figure out how to use makeup to create the appearance of a gun-shot wound on Ramon’s head.
They drove out to a remote location and dug a grave. Ramon stripped down to his underwear and covered in fake blood, laid down into the grave whilst his photo was taken and sent to his wife as proof of the killing.
Her reaction was as cold as her soul. She was happy with the result and even asked her hitman if he was certain he was dead.
Now Ramon had to lie low for three days. He spoke to no one.
Meanwhile, Lulu played dumb to everyone else, including the police. She acted as if she knew nothing of her husband’s whereabouts. She was then arrested and charged. Later a conviction of second-degree felony solicitation of murder, and a sentence of 20 years was given to the wannabe murderess. They recently denied her parole.
Ramon didn’t let this nightmare ruin anymore of his life. He’s now happily married and enjoying life.
