We danced to the music, me wearing a skirt that hit mid-thigh and Kelly in tight white pants, the sharks began to circle. The pulsing coloured lights could not hide the men’s heated, hungry expressions.

Kelly turned her back on one hopeful, then enacted some outrageous moves. I burst out laughing and her smirk was conspiratorial. I shimmied and toe-tapped like every ’80s babe. I looked up as Paulo joined us, he moved with a loose-hipped panache that British boys could only dream of.

His gaze raked over my body, adding to the tingles from my day in the sun.
